There are plenty of great pickup trucks, but not everyone needs a fancy one. Sometimes, you want a strong, capable vehicle that can get in, do its job, and get out. That’s why a used 2013 Ram 2500 HD Diesel may be one of the best options if you need a no-nonsense work truck.

The 2013 Ram 2500 Diesel: A nice, simple work truck

The standard 2013 Ram 2500 HD is a simple pickup truck, but it’s actually not that bad, Edmunds reports. Ram is known for making trucks with high-quality interiors, and that’s the case with the 2500. Because it’s an older truck, it doesn’t come with a fancy infotainment touchscreen or other advanced features. That said, it has an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

But even without a touchscreen, the 2013 Ram 2500’s interior has comfortable seats and plenty of interior storage. In fact, the 2500’s interior is so nice that it’s “almost too nice for work truck status,” Edmunds reported.

However, it definitely boasts work-truck pricing. According to Edmunds, used 2013 Ram 2500 HD trucks sell for around $13,000 to $18,000. That’s the pricing for the regular cab version, so other versions’ prices will vary.

The 2013 Ram 2500 HD is a powerful truck

The 2013 Ram 2500 comes standard with a 5.7-liter V8 that gets 383-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, and this engine is capable enough for most tasks. The standard gasoline engine allows the 2500 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.1 seconds and tow over 14,000 pounds. But the diesel engine is more capable.

The Ram 2500 can also pack a 6.7-liter diesel that gets about the same horsepower but far more torque. With a manual transmission, the diesel engine produces 350 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque, Edmunds reported. With an automatic transmission, it harnesses 385 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque.

Packing the diesel engine with a manual transmission, the Ram 2500 can tow over 17,000 pounds of stuff. However, with an automatic transmission, it can tow over 18,000 pounds.

It’s the most capable diesel truck

On top of that, this powerful diesel engine also allows the 2013 Ram 2500 to carry over 5,000 pounds in the bed, MotorTrend reported. Thanks to those remarkable figures, MotorTrend called the 2013 2500 HD the most capable diesel truck on the market. Its “do-it-all capability in a fairly simple package” is also a great selling point.

Though the truck is fairly simple, buying used isn’t necessarily that simple. A used 2013 2500 HD starts around $13,000, but it’s not likely that someone would be willing to sell their fully equipped 2013 Ram 2500 HD Diesel for that price.

According to Edmunds, there are quite a few options available for the truck. And if the 2500 has a crew cab rather than a regular cab, the price could be much higher. For example, a used 2013 Ram 2500 HD with a crew cab configuration could start at almost $31,000. And, of course, there’s nothing stopping a seller from negotiating for more money for their truck.
