A Body Shop Employee Allegedly Took a Customer’s Honda Odyssey to 87 mph – And Police Were Waiting

A body shop employee allegedly took a customer’s Honda Odyssey minivan way above the speed limit in a construction zone, only to get caught in the act by the police who waited to welcome him to the end of the road with speed cameras. Unfortunately, the minivan was impounded for seven days.

How did the owner of the minivan know what happened? Of course, the police were one source of information. But a detailed account of the incident was obtained from the dash camera in the Odyssey, highlighting how the body shop employee’s excitement to go speeding turned into a costly mistake in just a few seconds.

The owner of the Odyssey minivan shared the story on Reddit, stating that his vehicle was in the shop only for bodywork, where they found a mechanical issue. After getting it rectified by a mechanic, the body shop employee decided to test what the V6 Honda would feel like on the way back. The incident likely occurred somewhere in Canada. The owner wrote:

a sign that says paint and body shop lit up at night. Where the minivan was fixed.

“I was rear ended a few weeks ago, and our family minivan was in the shop for bodywork. They discovered a small mechanical issue, so they took it to a mechanic. On the way back, an employee decided to test what the V6 Honda engine could do on the freeway, so he and the person following him in another car went out of their way to take the freeway.”

The stretch where he sped in the minivan had a speed limit of 50 mph (80 km/h), but the employee took it all the way up to 87 mph (140 km/h). He can be heard apologizing to the officer later, who stated that the car will have to be impounded for seven days.

The minivan owner writes that he got back his car eventually, and the employee who had been speeding was sacked by the body shop. He added:

“We have our car back. The employee was terminated when the shop owner was forwarded the video footage by all kinds of people. The employee did, however, write a sincere apology letter. The shop paid for everything, got the car detailed, and is also offering to send us out for a nice dinner. I’ve never met nicer people who were eager to take care of an issue. The RCMP officer also contacted me, asking for the original footage.”
