Here’s a sweet story, sure to restore your hope in people: Nine-year-old Wyatt Ban of Eminence, Indiana, noticed something wrong with a cow his mom drove past. And when he realized there was trouble a-hoof, he didn’t hesitate to get his own feet muddy helping out.

Wyatt and his mom were driving home from breakfast one Tuesday. The boy was looking out the window when he noticed something odd: a cow running frantically around a grassy pasture. Morgan Ban admits, “I didn’t think anything of it at first.” But Wyatt knew something was wrong.

“He was so upset and kept saying we had to go back, so I turned around.” She stopped near a bridge, and Wyatt sized up the pasture fence. He assured his mom he could fit through and asked her to stay put.

Getting muddy to save a calf in need

Morgan obviously knows her son well—and knows he’s competent enough to handle himself. She later admitted, “He knew just what to do.” So she stayed in the car and filmed his escapades. Wyatt slipped through the fence and approached the frantic cow. That’s when he realized it was circling its calf, stuck in a small muddy creek.

It appears the slope was too slippery for the mother cow to get down. And it was too steep for the baby calf to get up. So it was Wyatt to the rescue. He jumped down into the creek and pushed the baby to safety. Back in the grassy pasture, he patted it affectionately and let it run off. Morgan said, “Then, the baby and momma were happily reunited. It was incredible.” Meanwhile, Wyatt jumped across the creek to return to his own mom.

The internet declares Wyatt Ban an “exceptional boy”

When the SWNS News network posted Morgan Ban’s video, commenters were impressed with Wyatt’s courage and charmed by his thoughtfulness. Stuart said, “What a great young man.” Virginia commented, “What a big heart this young man has <3.” Lee glowed, “What an exceptional boy.” Rob added, “Got the makings of a fine Man.”

But it wasn’t just English speakers impressed with Wyatt. Gulysat Tyrgynbaeva wrote “Молодец мальчик,” which is Russian for “Well done, boy.” See the Bans’ world-famous video embedded below:
