You’ve likely heard that car buying is “like a battle.” It’s patience, negotiation, research, and strategy. Well, this 83-year-old Florida man may have taken that silly comparison a bit too far to heart. Police arrested him at a Lexus dealership after he pointed a gun at the dealership and yelled threats during an attempted trade-in.
Police arrested an elderly Florida man after he threatened patrons at a Lexus dealership with a handgun
John Logsdon, 83, wanted to swap his Lexus for a Honda. To pull off the trade-in, he headed to Lexus of Palm Beach in his Japanese luxury car. The elderly Florida man made contact with a sales associate at the Lexus dealer. As is standard procedure at many dealers, the associate tried to collect Logsdon’s contact information.
However, Logsdon didn’t provide his phone number. Instead, the Florida man told the sales associate that he was heading back to his current Lexus to get his phone. The associate accompanied Logsdon back to his car. Then, things took a turn for the weird.
The Florida man told the sales associate that he had “a lot of guns in the car,” per WPBF. That’s when Logsdon pulled one of his aforementioned firearms out to display for the sales associate. He reportedly pointed the “black gun” at the Lexus dealer’s entrance and told the associate, “I can shoot anyone here.”
As you might imagine, that was enough to raise concerns among the staff. The associate told Logsdon to put the gun away, a request that elicited a laughing response from the old Florida man. Fortunately, Logsdon put the gun away, and the Lexus dealership staff called the police.
Now, it’s legal for an adult without a felony conviction or another court-order reason to own a gun and even transport them in their cars. However, there are some regulations. For instance, Floridians have to store their firearms in a “securely encased” condition, per Avera & Smith Law.
That means a glove box, a holster, or a case of some kind. It definitely doesn’t mean nonchalantly brandishing a firearm in public and threatening people. Frankly, he’s lucky things didn’t get worse.
