Consumer Reports calculated how much it would cost to fill up the 2022 Ford Expedition (and the other SUVs and trucks on this list) by using the average national fuel price of $4.12 on April 21, 2022. It determined that the new Explorer is the most expensive SUV to fill up right now at about $117 for a fill-up. That’s partly because the Expedition has a large fuel tank, at 28.3 gallons. It gets up to 453 miles on a full tank with a range of 11 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

The 2022 Chevy Suburban costs more than $100 to fill up

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban is the second most expensive vehicle to fill up right now. It costs $115 to get the Suburban from empty to full at $4.12 a gallon. The Suburban’s gas tank is slightly smaller than that of the Expedition, at an even 28 gallons. It gets 448 miles on a full tank of gas. That’s thanks to the Suburban’s 11 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Consumer Reports notes that the 2022 GMC Yukon XL has the same fuel economy.

While the 2022 Infiniti QX80 and 2022 Nissan Armada are strikingly similar SUVs, the QX80 does get slightly better rane than the Armada. The Infiniti SUV can go 390 miles on a full tank of gas, while the Nissan SUV only makes it 364. Its miles per gallon is slightly better, at 11 in the city, 21 on the highway, and 15 overall. Still, they both have 26 gallon tanks and each cost $107 to fill.
