The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a plug-in hybrid off-road SUV. While some purists are screaming, “say it isn’t so,” it is. This version of the Wrangler brings an excellent pairing of the hardcore off-road qualities you admire while adding the fuel-sipping benefits of a hybrid powertrain. This could be the best way to enjoy what this Jeep SUV brings to the table. That said, here are six things that should make this PEV Wrangler even more enticing.

1. The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe does traditional Wrangler things

Just because you don’t have the naturally aspirated engine under the hood doesn’t mean the 4xe is any less a Wrangler. Stellantis tells us that Jeep gives this SUV a removable roof and doors to open your experience to the outdoors, just like other Wranglers. There’s even a fold-down windshield to expose you and the cabin to more of the elements.

2. This Jeep isn’t as basic as some Wranglers

Even the base version of the Wrangler 4xe SUV has the benefits of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You’re not stuck with only Bluetooth, which you might be if you looked to the base version of the regular Wrangler.

3. You can start your off-road adventures using only electricity

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe powertrain is good for 21 miles of electric-only driving. This might be a bit less when facing demanding terrain, but you can still climb rocks and run over tree roots on the trails without using a drop of gas. Don’t worry; when you’re out in the wilderness, this Wrangler can still handle up to 30 inches of water. The battery pack of the hybrid system is sealed for this purpose.

4. Add the Corning Gorilla Glass windshield; you’ll be glad you did

A Corning Gorilla Glass windshield is an optional feature, but it’s one you’ll want in your Wrangler 4xe SUV. This windshield is three times more resistant to cracks and chips than a regular windshield. If you’re using this Wrangler for its intended purpose, off-road adventures, you’ll want the strongest windshield you can buy.

5. Put the Off-Road Plus feature to work in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Jeep makes off-roading easier with a feature that works like a low-speed, off-road cruise control. This feature, called Off-Road Plus, controls the throttle, gear, and traction control so that all you have to do is focus on the steering. The Off-Road Plus feature is standard on the Rubicon version of this Jeep SUV.

6. The Wrangler 4xe allows you to get social

Like every Jeep Wrangler, this SUV is perfect for the fun you’ll have with the Jeep club in your area. Meet some like-minded people and allow your new PHEV Wrangler to become more than mere transportation. This SUV is your ticket into an exclusive but vastly populated club.

What is the configuration and powertrain of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?

This plug-in hybrid Wrangler comes in the Unlimited, four-door configuration, and uses a hybrid powertrain. The powertrain is comprised of a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine plus a pair of electric motors. You’ll have 375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque, and 21 miles of electric-only range when the batteries are fully charged.
