How could the top-selling vehicle in America be one you should avoid? Like any other vehicle, the Ford F-150 has some drawbacks to driving this truck that you should understand. Every vehicle gives you some reasons to hate parts of what it gives you, and the top truck in the market isn’t any different.

1. Going for a top trim gets extremely pricey in the 2022 Ford F-150

Unless you want to spend more than $80,000 for a truck made to get a lot of work done, you’ll want to avoid the F-15 Limited. Kelley Blue Book tells us the base model starts at $29,640, which is a reasonable price, but that top trim might send you looking for a second mortgage on your home to pay for it.

2. This Ford truck lacks styling imagination

You might not think of this as much of a drawback, but other trucks in the market are much more stylish and attractive than the Ford F-150. Some of those more attractive models are more affordable, making it easy to head to something more appealing for your eyes and budget.

3. Where’s the diesel engine, Ford?

Both GM and Ram offer diesel engines for their half-ton trucks; why not Ford? You can’t get the Power Stroke diesel engine until you move up to the Super Duty models. If you’re looking for a diesel-powered half-ton truck, you can’t find it in the Ford F-150.

4. Larger versions of this truck are hard to maneuver

While this is simple physics, Ford didn’t do much to improve the handling on larger versions of the F-150. This means if you select a Crew Cab model with the longest bed offered, you’ll have a difficult time parking your truck. Get ready to hike from the far end of the parking lot.

5. Hybrid transitions take some getting used to in the F-150

Some vehicles make you feel everything happening, but that’s not what you want in your Ford F-150. According to Car Buying Strategies, you’ll feel the transitions from gas to electric power and back if you drive a hybrid model. This should happen seamlessly and without you feeling it, but that’s not the case.

6. The luxury elements fall behind the competition in the higher trims of this Ford truck

As you reach the top models of the Ford F-150, you’ll find an interior filled with attractive items, the design elements you desire, and impressive craftsmanship. Still, you’ll find a more luxurious feeling if you look at the top trims of the Ram 1500. This comparison could leave you a little disappointed in what Ford has for you.

What are common problems with Ford trucks?

Some of the most common problems for the Ford F-150 include:

  • Head gasket leaks
  • Oil pan gasket leaks
  • Spark plug ejection
  • Rupturing airbags
  • Faulty brakes
  • Engine problems

These are just a few of the issues historically found in Ford trucks. To be fair, this truck is the top-selling vehicle in the market and will have more trouble spots than most. This does beg the question, “shouldn’t we expect more from Ford?”

Which F-150 engine is best?

The 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine is the best choice among the 2022 Ford F-150 lineup. This engine is powerful, relatively efficient, and used in both the Raptor and Limited trims. You can tow up to 14,000 pounds when using this engine.

Which is better, V8 or EcoBoost?

According to MyValuCar, the EcoBoost V6 and the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 have merits. The V8 could be a better engine for you. This engine comes in many more trims than the V6. If you’re going to buy a Ford F-150, you’ll probably want the options you get with the V8. However, if it’s the Raptor or Limited trims you’re after, the EcoBoost V6 is the engine you’ll use.

Should you buy a 2022 Ford F-150?

As mentioned, every vehicle has some issues and reasons to hate it or at least dislike the qualities it brings to your drive. The F-150 isn’t immune to these issues. If you want a truck that typically does a great job handling the workload, this Ford is a good option. If you’re looking for luxury qualities in your truck, the Ram 1500 is better.
