Two of the Detroit Big Three automakers offer upgraded pickup trucks for 2023. Toss in Tesla and the new Cybertruck, and we have six new trucks arriving, all coming from familiar American automakers. What’s not familiar is that half of these six are electric trucks, making this new model year a bit more interesting.

First, a look at the midsize pickup trucks heading our way in 2023

Three of the most popular midsize trucks will hit 2023 with new offerings. The Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon all bring something new and special to the midsize truck market. What does each of these trucks bring to make them better?

Ford Ranger

The 2023 Ford Ranger brings the Raptor name down to the midsize truck class to offer a more powerful version of the Raptor. This is one of the best new American pickup trucks for 2023 with its 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine to offer 392 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This version is made to compete with the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

General Motors improved its pair of midsize trucks by equipping them with a new 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine at all trim levels. this engine is tuned three different ways for the Colorado while the Canyon uses the high-output version of this engine. The top power level delivers 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.

In addition to a new powertrain, the 2023 GMC Canyon lineup has changed to take off-roading seriously. This new midsize pickup truck is a hardcore off-road machine at all trim levels to make adventures more fun in 2023. Pick your poison; the off-road gear gets better as you climb the trim ladder to the top.

A pair of new American electric pickup trucks are set to hit the market in 2023

The time of speculation is finally over. The electric versions of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will arrive during 2023 to give the Ford F-150 Lightning some real competition. These two pickup trucks use the Ultium electric vehicle platform to deliver more than 400 miles of driving range and up to 10,000 pounds of towing capacity.

The Silverado EV WT (work truck) model should start at a reasonable $41,595, giving fleet-oriented consumers a great truck to put to work every day. On the other end of the spectrum, the Silverado EV RST and GMC Sierra EV Denali deliver 754 horsepower and are priced above $100,000 each.

Tesla finally schedules the Cybertruck for production in 2023

One of the most hotly anticipated new American pickup trucks heading to the market in 2023 is the Tesla Cybertruck. This new and unique full-size electric pickup should finally begin production later this year. It’s advertised at more reasonable prices than the Silverado or Sierra electric trucks.

This new Tesla brings a tow rating of 14,000 pounds and offers two and three-motor powertrains. It also has a unique body style made of rolled stainless steel. Although the Cybertruck appears to be something completely different for the truck world, it could be the work truck that many consumers turn to when searching for a capable electric pickup truck.
