EVs are becoming more affordable. It might not seem that way when new models arrive with high MSRPs, but Ford, Tesla, and Chevy have cut electric vehicle prices. The balance many consumers seek is the cheapest EV with the best driving range. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the most affordable electric cars providing at least 250 miles of range.

Chevy Bolt EV, $26,500

The Chevy Bolt EV hatchback and EUV crossover got a price cut heading into 2023. Unfortunately, the EUV misses our list by providing only 247 miles of electric driving range. However, the Bolt EV hatchback gets an EPA-estimated 259 miles of range on a full charge. That makes the Chevy Bolt EV the most affordable new electric car with at least 250 miles of range.

Hyundai Kona Electric, $33,550

Hyundai quietly dropped the price of the Kona Electric by a few thousand dollars while adding a more modern appearance to this subcompact crossover. That puts the Kona Electric in the running as one of the cheapest electric cars with a decent driving range. This affordable Hyundai EV delivers the goods with 258 miles on a full charge.

Beyond Zero technology hits the right marks by bringing 252 miles of driving range to the Toyota bZ4X. This compact electric crossover hasn’t quite caught the same enthusiastic following as the Bolt EV or Tesla Model 3 yet, but it offers a solid start. The Toyota bZ4X is one of the cheapest electric cars with a reasonable range, hinting at what’s to come from this reliable brand.

Volkswagen ID.4 Pro, $43,995

The Volkswagen ID.4 is the first electric SUV from the brand. Its Pro trim boasts 275 miles of driving range. This is one of the cheapest electric cars with an attractive range. This VW’s driving experience is bland compared with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, but that doesn’t prevent the ID.4 from being a practical, comfortable family SUV. Toss in the three years of included charging at Electrify America locations, and this crossover is an appealing choice for EV drivers.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE, $45,500

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is not only affordable but also one of the most practical and popular EVs. Ioniq 5 sales figures rival those of the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Ioniq 5 is the first EV on our list with 303 miles of driving range. That can be a big deal when looking for the best balance of price and range in an electric vehicle.

Tesla Model 3 Long Range, $47,240

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range is arguably the cheapest long-range electric car. This setup takes the driving range to an EPA-estimated 358 miles, making driving all week without charging possible. Of course, if you stick with the base model, you’ll still have one of the cheapest electric cars with over 250 miles of range. The standard Model 3 provides 272 miles on a full charge, the EPA estimates. That’s still enough to ease range anxiety.
