Buying a sedan in today’s market is overwhelming. There are so many choices that it can be difficult to figure out what will meet your needs. While the Nissan Maxima has been a popular sedan with a sporty edge, the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon offers even more features. The VW Arteon is dominating the larger sports sedan market, and it’s because of these six advantages.

1. The Volkswagen Arteon has a better standard warranty

The warranty on any sports car is something to consider. You don’t want to find out that there’s an issue after the warranty has expired. Consumer Reports goes into detail about the VW warranties, which include four years/50,000 miles on the basic warranty. The Maxima’s warranty is not at the same level, providing only three years/36,000 miles for the basic warranty. That added year and 14,000 miles on the Arteon could save you a lot of money and offer more peace of mind.

2. Better fuel economy ratings on the Arteon

Fuel economy details how many miles you can get per gallon of gas. You should always consider this as it can end up saving you hundreds of dollars over the course of the year. Edmunds discusses the Volkswagen Arteon’s fuel economy at 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Edmunds reports the Nissan Maxima’s fuel economy as the same on the highway but slightly lower in the city at only 20 mpg. While it seems relatively small, it can add up quickly if you’re doing a lot of highway driving.

3. The VW has more standard torque

The VW Arteon boasts an impressive 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The performance is what makes the Arteon such a fun drive on any road or highway. Meanwhile, the base engine of the Nissan Maxima features the same amount of horsepower, but the torque isn’t at the same level. The Nissan site discusses the dynamic drive technologies, but it still falls short in terms of torque.

4. Available AWD on the Arteon

The VW Arteon is available in AWD, offering more off-road capabilities. This means it will be able to handle better in colder weather environments, such as when there’s snow, ice, and sleet on the roads. Additionally, it’s important to know what AWD really is. Even as the Nissan Maxima offers new features in its press kit, AWD is still not an option. Meanwhile, the Arteon’s 4Motion all-wheel drive is an option, as listed in the VW press kit.

5. The Nissan Maxima has less cargo space

Cargo capacity is critical as it determines how much space you have in the trunk. It can mean the difference of having to fold down seats or even strap things to the roof with all that you need to carry.

Car and Driver details the Volkswagen Arteon’s hatchback as capable of offering 27 cubic feet of cargo space. Meanwhile, the Nissan Maxima is at a disadvantage compared to the Arteon and other large cars, with a cargo capacity of 14.3 cubic feet.

6. More cabin space in the Volkswagen Arteon

Cabin space is also critical for the overall feel and passenger comfort. The Volkswagen Arteon has a bit more space throughout due to the unique design and the use of a hatchback end to create more space toward the rear of the vehicle. Most of the space is found within the backseat, including a rear leg room of 40.2 inches – compared to the 34.2 inches in the Nissan Maxima. The EPA interior volume of the Arteon is 123.7 cubic feet, while the Maxima is 112 cubic feet.
