5 Tips and Tricks to Keep Your Car’s Interior Clean

Keeping the interior of your car clean can make for a difficult task. After all, we practically live in our cars. From eating, drinking, talking on the phone, and providing the kids with their personal Uber, there’s no denying that even the biggest neat freak has trouble keeping their car clean. That’s why we’ve put together this list of tips and tricks to help keep your car’s interior clean. We tried out ideas from sources like Reader’s Digest and Lifehack and are sharing the ones that work the best.

Use a toothbrush to get dirt and grime out of tight spots in your upholstery

If you’ve ever watched professional detailers clean the interior of a car, you’ve probably seen all the tools and brushes they use. There’s a brush for just about every job. But for most cleaning jobs, you can spend less than five dollars on one brush that will do almost everything – a toothbrush.

It may seem weird, but a toothbrush is ideal for upholstery cleaning. The stiff bristles and small brush make it ideal for cleaning the seams of your upholstery or getting into small places.

Use a soda water mix to keep your car’s interior clean

The carbonation in soda water makes it a powerful cleaning agent, reports LifeHack. Combined with a small amount of alcohol, it will disinfect your car. Plus, the soda water won’t leave streaks on glass or shiny surfaces as some regular cleaners can.

Pair soda water and vinegar together to scrub upholstery and carpets. This combination will also disinfect as it removes stains and smudges.

Dust your A/C vents with a foam paintbrush

Now, this car cleaning tip comes from The Krazy Coupon Lady. But if you’ve ever been to the paint section of a hardware store, you’ve probably seen these little foam brushes. They aren’t great at painting, but they make an ideal tool to clean A/C vents and get into other hard-to-reach places.

A can of compressed air can keep your A/C vents clear

A can of compressed air works great at cleaning A/C vents and other tight spots. You can also use it to blow out the vents and the air ducts. Combine the compressed air with spraying the air ducts with a vinegar and soda water mixture will also help disinfect your A/C.

Apply Baking Soda

Baking soda is great for cleaning car headlights. It’s also great at absorbing odors and can work wonders for your carpets and floor mats, says Reader’s Digest. Apply a mixture of vinegar and soda overnight and then vacuum it up. You can also sprinkle baking soda directly on carpets, floor mats, and upholstery, let it sit, and then vacuum. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.
