We get to spend a week with the new Kia Sportage Hybrid, which might be as life-changing as it is fuel-saving. The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid isn’t like the model we used to know, and so far, we’re discovering tons of new features to enjoy.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid worth buying?

Yes, the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid is an excellent, well-round SUV to consider. It’s affordable, with an MSRP of $27,290. Tons of value is included with the price, such as modern tech, ample power, and high-quality interior materials.

The Sportage Hybrid has tons of passenger and cargo space, sips fuel, and even has an all-wheel drive lock for tackling slippery situations. Basically, it’s a hybrid bargain that checks multiple boxes for various driver needs.

1. The Kia Sportage Hybrid is fun

The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid is available with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters to make its athletic performance even more engaging. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine is paired with a 44-kWh motor to crank out 227 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The Sportage can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds, making it one of the fastest options in the class. It has responsive steering and encouraging feedback while cornering. Plus, the brakes are confident and predictable.

You can use Sport Mode to adjust the throttle response for more engaging feedback or the EcoMode to save fuel. The Smart mode reacts to your driving habits to provide an optimal performance.

2. The Sportage Hybrid is efficient

The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 42 mpg in the city and up to 44 mpg on the highway. This beats the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid models. But adding AWD does reduce these figures a bit.

You don’t have to plug the Sportage in to charge the batteries. The regenerative braking system provides plenty of juice. Plus, you can see when you’re recharging the batteries on the digital gauge cluster.

3. The Sportage Hybrid is capable

Kia is entering the world of off-roading, and the Kia Sportage Hybrid is shockingly capable. We don’t have X-Pro model, but the EX trim we’re testing is pretty capable. It has locking AWD, downhill brake control, and a Snow mode.

Upgrading to the X-Pro models increases the ground clearance to 8.3-inches and adds more off-roading modes. You also get 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The Sportage Hybrid feels stable and powerful over steep inclines and slippery trails.

4. The Kia Sportage is comfortable

We have the mid-level EX trim, and it’s extremely comfortable. You don’t have to go for the top-spec SX Prestige trim for large, supportive seats. The simulated leather upholstery is fantastic for long drives.

The Sportage Hybrid is a pretty smooth ride and absorbs impacts well. Wind and road noise is kept at bay for a peaceful interior, and the engine is quiet too. Noise has been added to alert pedestrians at lower speeds.

5. The interior is excellent

The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid doesn’t hold out on upscale materials for higher trim levels. The EX trim is loaded with soft-touch materials, faux-leather upholstery, and a massive panoramic sunroof.

The interior features a spacious, well-planned layout with attractive shades of blue, tan, and even red. Everything you need is easily within reach, and the tech is easy to use. We’re especially fond of the large 12.3-inch infotainment display with vibrant graphics.
