The weather is getting nicer in most parts of the country, so it’s a great time to get into a sports car. Fortunately, there are plenty of fun-to-drive sports coupes in the market for 2023. Some of them are way out of most price ranges, while others are far more affordable. Check out these five sports cars for under $40,000.

1. 2023 Hyundai Elantra N —  $34,015

When we mentioned “sports cars,” did you picture a Chevy Corvette? We don’t blame you. However, nowadays, sports cars come in all shapes and sizes and even have more than two doors. For example, the 2023 Hyundai Elantra N is a sporty sedan with 276 hp under its hood and a sport suspension that can take on any twisty road. Best of all, it costs a lot less than $40,000 and has enough room for a family of five.

2. 2023 Mazda Miata MX-5 — $29,115

There’s no denying that the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of our favorite sports cars. Its spry handling, aggressive aesthetics, and eager engine make it one of the best cars to drive. The MX-5 is so fun that you won’t even mind that it only has two seats. Just tell your other would-be passengers to take an Uber – the Miata is so fun to drive that it could be worth some hate and envy from your friends.

3. 2023 Toyota GR86 — $29,495

We have a massive soft spot for the 2023 Toyota GR86. Like the Miata, the GR86 is a front-engine, rear-drive coupe that’s technically a two-seater with room for four. Also, it has a nice trunk that’s large enough for a couple of bags, which makes it practical enough for a weekend getaway. There’s also 200 hp under the hood in addition to an available six-speed manual transmission. All things considered, the Toyota GR86 is the perfect recipe for driving excitement.

4. 2023 Toyota GR Corolla — $36,995

Since the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is now priced well over $40,000, the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla is a great substitute. Like its rival from Honda, the GR Corolla has 300 hp under its hood, which can be controlled with a six-speed manual transmission. Best of all, the power goes out to all four wheels, making it more traction-friendly than the Civic. It’s safe to say that the GR Corolla is a great deal as long as you can find one for MSRP.

5. 2023 Ford Mustang EcoBoost — $27,770

When it comes to sports car performance, there’s almost no better value than the 2023 Ford Mustang EcoBoost. Sure, this base trim level may not have the fancy sound system or premium seats like the upper trim levels. But it does have a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. All things considered, the Mustang EcoBoost could be exactly what any driving enthusiast could need – especially if they are on a budget.

Five great sports cars for under $40,000

If you’re on the hunt for a sports car for under $40,000, these five examples can point you in the right direction. Although none of them are Corvettes, some of them are almost as quick as one, so you’ll fulfill your need for speed while saving some cash in the process.
