First of all, shout out to iSeeCars for putting this safety report together. It analyzed fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from 2018 – 2022 model year cars.
It used information from the Fatality AnalysisReporting System (FARS) to research car crashes with at least one occupant fatality to determine the most dangerous cars on the road.
Up first, we have the Hyundai Venue with a 13.9 fatal accident rate per billion miles. It has a rate that’s 4.9 times higher than the 2.8 overall average.
Then the Chevrolet Corvette and Mitsubishi Mirage are tied for second place with a 13.6 fatal accident rate, which is 4.8 times the average.
The Porsche 911 and Honda CR-V Hybrid are tied for third place with a rate of 13.2, which is 4.6 times higher than average.
These vehicles provide an interesting mix of compact and mid-size options. Some are economy SUVs, while others are pretty luxurious.
However, most of these cars received excellent safety scores and performed well in testing by the NHTSA and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The most dangerous cars probably reflect a combination of driver behavior and conditions that lead to increased crashes and fatalities. It’s important to remember that newer cars are safer than ever.
