The 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport is the rugged mid-trim model in the lineup that sits below the top-trim Elite. Admittedly, the TrailSport is mostly an appearance package, and it doesn’t do much to add to the SUV’s ruggedness. However, we still found five features that we like about it.

1. The 2022 Honda Passport Trailsport has an i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system

One of the main advantages of buying the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport trim is that it comes standard with the brand’s i-VTM all-wheel drive system. What’s special about this system is that it vectors, or splits, the torque between the wheels when more power is needed. The result is more traction in slippery situations and around corners.

2. The Trailsport styling is an added plus

The Passport TrailSport comes with orange embroidered leather seats. There is contrast stitching all over the interior and “TrailSport” logos on the headrests. Although the orange color may not suit some drivers, we like that it worked well with our test car’s white exterior.

3. The Passport TrailSport has larger 18-inch wheels and tires

One of the main features that sets the TrailSport apart from the other Honda Passport trim levels are the wheels and tire sitting beneath the fenders. While the other trims use 20-inch wheels, the Passport TrailSport rides on 18-inch rollers with a greater offset, which widens the car’s track by 0.4 inches. Those wheels are wrapped in 245/60-18 Firestone Destination LE 2 tires, all-season tires that provide a lot of grip on loose terrain.

4. The TrailSport trim comes with a navigation system

This is a pretty minor feature, but we do like that the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport comes with a built-in navigation system. Sure, you can use your phone and connect it to Apple Carplay and Android Auto for navigation purposes. However, if you’re on a trail with no cell phone reception, the onboard navigation unit will come in handy.

5. We like the Honda Passport TrailSport’s bold front fascia

Everything from the Passport TrailSport’s A-pillar forward is all-new for 2022. That includes a sculpted hood, bolder fenders, a square nose, and an upright grille. It has a more dramatic look than the outgoing model, and we think it works for the car.

Sure, the Passport may look like a cutoff version of its bigger brother, the Pilot, but considering this is the somewhat rugged TrailSport trim, the new front end is a welcomed addition.

Five of our favorite 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport features

Although we would have liked to see a higher ride height to add to the 2022 Honda Passport’s 8.1 inches of ground clearance, we still like what the TrailSport trim offers. Is it really worth the $2,000 premium over the base AWD trim level?

Maybe not, considering you don’t get much in the way of performance additions. However, if you like bolder aesthetics and orange stitching, the 2022 Passport TrailSport trim level could be the one to pick.
