5 celebrities you didn’t expect to own a Tesla electric car

Audio By Carbonatix
Years ago, a Tesla was something of a status symbol for the rich and famous. It said, “Hey, I want to be seen driving something environmentally conscious.” But it also had more prestige and poshness than a Nissan LEAF or Toyota Prius. Still, even as some celebs have ditched their Tesla electric cars for other options, a few have decided to keep their rides. At least, up until recently.
From Will Smith to Joe Rogan, the Tesla is still a big part of the celebrity landscape
Hollywood is also a microcosm of progressive public opinion, and Tesla’s approval rating is at an all-time low. As a result, celebrities like Jason Bateman, Bette Midler, and Sheryl Crow have ditched their Tesla-branded electric cars. “I feel like I’m driving around with a Trump sticker with that car,” Bateman said about his EV. “So it’s gone.” However, not every celeb feels that way. Here are five high-profile people who have kept a Tesla or two in their garage.
- Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan’s Tesla fandom was completely unimpacted by the brand’s tarnished public image. In fact, Rogan recently took to X, formerly Twitter, to tout his self-driving experiences while allowing his custom Model S to drive him home. However, the rest of Rogan’s car collection reads more like something from the Leno list, practically brimming with classic and custom cars.
- Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian, the famous-for-being-famous TV and social media superstar, shared pictures of her latest Tesla last year. Not a Model S or Model X, mind you. No, Kardashian joined the community of Cybertruck owners. Kardashian reportedly purchased the EV pickup truck a little over a year ago and has since posted it on social media sites, per Business Insider.
- Leonardo DiCaprio
As of 2024, Hollywood legend Leonardo DiCaprio had at least one high-profile Tesla in his collection. The seven-time Academy Award winner is one of the few people to snag a Tesla Roadster, the brand’s original halo car. However, DiCaprio’s model is one of the first-generation iterations, not the all-new, not-yet-for-sale two-seater.
- Will Smith
Will Smith is a huge luxury car fan. A poke around the television and movie star’s garage would reveal a Maybach, a Rolls-Royce, and a drop-top Bentley. However, it would also showcase Smith’s high-voltage electric cars: a Tesla Roadster and a Model S.
- Donald Trump
Perhaps you missed the time Elon Musk and Donald Trump turned the White House lawn into a Tesla showroom. Well, in an attempt to breathe some brand-passion back into Tesla and aid his close ally, Trump reportedly bought a red Tesla Model S right there on Pennsylvania Avenue. However, with a 24/7 US Secret Service detail, the president isn’t doing much in terms of driving.
