There’s nothing like feeling the wind in your hair while soaring down the open road in a convertible car. But what if you want the quietness and rigidity of a coupe without sacrificing that open-air fun? In that case, a hardtop convertible could be in order. Here are five of the best hardtop convertibles available in the used market today.

If you’re looking for a hardtop convertible that can fit four people while providing plenty of power, the 2013 Infiniti G37 is a great choice. The G37 has a rear seat and a three-piece hardtop that’s thin enough to store neatly in the trunk. It’s also sporty with its 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 333 hp, and its tight suspension. For more of a connected feel, the G37 can be found with a six-speed manual transmission, but a seven-speed automatic is also available.

2. 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz features everything you would expect from the German manufacturer. It has excellent build quality and plenty of high-tech features you wouldn’t find in any other convertible. One such feature is the Air Scarf, which keeps passengers warm on chilly days via vents in the seats. iSeeCars notes that a glass panel also keeps the car’s interior bright on sunny days with the roof closed.

As for power, the SL-Class is motivated by a 302-hp 5.5-liter V8 that’s mated solely to a seven-speed automatic transmission. If you want beauty, power, and innovation, the Mercedes-Benz SL is the one to get.

3. 2012 Volkswagen Eos

If you want something fun and a little spunky, then find a 2012 Volkswagen EOS. The EOS is a two-seat convertible with a retractable hardtop and a built-in sunroof. It’s small and lightweight, so it’s fun to toss around corners; it also has a good amount of power. Under its hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that makes 200 hp and is mated to a six-speed automated manual transmission.

4. 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata

We can’t have a list like this without including the 2013 Mazda Miata. The MX-5 Miata has always been known for being one of the most fun roadsters on the market, and it’s even more fun in hardtop form. In addition to nimble handling characteristics and a retractable hardtop, the MX-5 Miata features a 167-hp engine that’s mated to either a six-speed automatic or a slick-shifting manual transmission.

5. 2012 Lexus IS C

Do you like the Lexus IS but would rather have it in hardtop convertible form? Check out the Lexus IS C. The IS C is available as the IS 250 C with a 204-hp V6 or the IS 350C with its 306-hp V6. For the most fun, we prefer the latter. However, you’re sure to have a great time regardless of the trim level chosen as the car’s retractable hardtop gives you fun in the sun and protection from it when needed.

The best used hardtop convertibles

If you’re in the market for a convertible but want something with more than a cloth-covered roof, these five hardtop convertibles should fit the bill. They all feature a retractable hardtop that provides a coupe-like structure when up without sacrificing open-air fun.
