If you’re looking for a dirt-cheap monthly payment or just want to avoid a loan altogether, certain models will do well for you. Braiden Shaw is a finance expert and entrepreneur with more than a million followers. He says he’s owned several of the five best cars under $10,000.
These cheap cars work especially well for daily commuters, first-time drivers, and college students
For under $10k, just about anyone can drive a reliable, low-maintenance vehicle without a hefty car payment:
5. 2012 to 2017 Toyota Corolla
Shaw says that while it might be a bit of a task to find a Corolla for under $10k from the newer end of the range, this batch of years is solid.
4. 2012 to 2016 Honda Civic
“A phenomenal car that will run forever,” Shaw says. You’ll see them rack up miles – even hundreds of thousands – and they’re still going.
3. 2011 to 2016 Mazda 3
“Great car,” the finance expert claims.
2. 2012 to 2017 Honda Accord models are cheap but solid cars
Shaw says he had two Accord models when he first bought his own vehicles. He claims this year range is perfect for reliability under $10k. “Safe, reliable, low maintenance…I owned one for years, absolutely loved it.”
1. 2012 to 2017 Toyota Camry
“You honestly just can’t beat it.” Shaw says he drove a 2013 Camry for years. “I remember buying that Camry for like $9,800 when I was in college,” he recalls, “I’m pretty sure I sold it for $12,000 like three or four years later.”
Shaw recommends that instead of buying expensive cars, folks should take all the money they’ve saved from avoiding a car payment and invest it.
