There are many factors to consider when buying a new car that goes beyond the initial cost of it. For example, you have to think about the cost of maintenance, fuel costs, as well as insurance for it. And while the first two factors can get pricey, the monthly cost of car insurance can easily equate to the monthly cost of the car. To help buyers shop for a new car, Mercury Insurance put together a list of the cheapest new cars to insure. Here are five of them.
1. 2022 Chevrolet Spark – MSRP: $13,600
With a starting price well under $15,000, the 2022 Chevrolet Spark is one of the cheapest new cars that you can buy. For that bargain-basement price, you’ll get a few nifty features like a rearview camera and 10 airbags in addition to a 98-hp engine and a five-speed manual transmission. If you want more safety features, then you can opt for the $295 Driver Confidence Package, according to Newsweek.
2. 2022 Toyota Prius Prime – MSRP: $28,220
Although the 2022 Toyota Prius Prime isn’t the cheapest model in the brand’s hybrid lineup, it’s a plug-in hybrid that can lead to more savings when it comes to insurance. On top of that, the Prius Prime comes standard with a host of driver-assist features and can be driven on all-electric power for up to 25 miles. When that range is depleted, it can still achieve up to an EPA-estimated 54 mpg.
3. 2022 Kia Rio – MSRP: $16,250
The uber-affordable 2022 Kia Rio comes standard with a surprising amount of tech features. In addition to an 8-inch touchscreen display, the Rio also comes with Bluetooth and wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Couple those attributes with cheap insurance rates and you have yourself a compact winner.
4. 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage – MSRP: $14,645
While the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage may not be the most substantial car on this list, it’s definitely one of the cheapest. The Mirage is offered in a sedan or hatchback body style, so there is some versatility for buyers. Additionally, it comes standard with a few safety features you don’t normally find on base trim levels like a forward collision warning, a lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.
5. 2022 Honda Accord – MSRP: $26,120
It’s safe to say that the 2022 Honda Accord needs no introduction. The Accord has been around for ages and has built up a strong reputation for being reliable and safe. In fact, the current Accord comes standard with the brand’s Honda Sensing suite of driver’s assist features as well as a few fuel-efficient engine choices and loads of space.
Affordable cars with cheap insurance rates
If you’re in the market for a new car that won’t break the bank in terms of price and car insurance rates, then these five can easily fit the bill. Of course, your personal insurance rates for each of these cars can vary, so it’s important to shop around and find the best rate for your needs and budget. However, you definitely can’t go wrong with any one of these.
