Kia is breaking new ground with its electric SUV. The 2024 Kia EV9 is a historic nameplate. It is one of the only fully-electric midsize SUVs on the market. The EV9 is a huge step for Kia as the brand electrifies its portfolio. Here are five fast facts that could get you excited about the South Korean automaker’s latest electric vehicle.

1. The Kia EV9 has fast charging capability

Charging times are a huge concern for drivers interested in electric vehicles. Many drivers are convinced that EVs take too long to charge. Some models can take hours to replenish just half of their battery capacity. The Kia EV9’s battery can recharge from 10% to 70% in as quick as 24 minutes with DC fast chargers.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that the EV9 should rely on fast charging every time its battery is low, but it’s comforting to know that it can charge that quickly. So, the EV9 is already more practical than some consumers think.

2. The EV9 has an onboard power generator

Electric vehicles are opening up a whole new world of possibilities for drivers. Electric pickup trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning have exportable power that can be used for devices and accessories. Ford’s electric pickup truck can even power a home for a limited amount of time.

The Kia EV9 will have a similar feature to Ford’s electric truck. It has an onboard power generator that allows drivers and occupants to use the EV’s power reserves in unique ways.

3. The 2024 Kia EV9 has plenty of towing capacity

Kia’s first electric midsize SUV is no weakling. In fact, it can tow 5,000 lbs. Its towing capacity is similar to that of its gas-powered predecessor, the Kia Telluride. The Kia EV9 can haul, but the question is, how much battery capacity does it burn when it’s towing?

EVs can easily lose a large percentage of their battery capacity when hauling heavy weight. We know the midsize electric vehicle has decent towing chops, but we’ll have to see how well it conserves its battery when put to the test.

4. There’s a powerful EV9 configuration

Power is a concern of many drivers, especially EV skeptics that don’t believe electric vehicles can produce exciting amounts of horsepower and torque. Kia’s website claims that one EV9 configuration makes a massive 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

That’s a healthy amount of power for any midsize SUV, let alone an electric vehicle. The South Korean electric SUV’s most powerful configuration should be fun to drive based on the available performance specs. Power is great, but how quick is the new EV?

5. The 2024 Kia EV9 can be incredibly quick

Kia’s newest electric SUV isn’t just powerful. It can be surprisingly quick (in certain configurations). Kia claims that the EV9 model that produces 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque can go from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.0 seconds.

Kia’s new EV is futuristic, and it seems practical based on the information that the brand has released thus far. There’s still plenty to learn about the new electric vehicle, but many automotive enthusiasts are excited about the new addition to the Hyundai Motor Company family.

Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have all produced great EV nameplates. Is the latest Kia model destined to thrive, or will it flop? According to Kelley Blue Book, it’s set to arrive in the United States in late 2023.
