There are so many types of sport utility vehicles on the market, but finding a reliable SUV or truck can still be a hassle. Consumer Reports says that some of the best SUVs and trucks come from brands like Toyota and Nissan.

The Toyota 4Runner is one of the most reliable SUVs

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner is a bit of a unicorn when it comes to reliable SUVs. With used car prices at an all-time high still, the Toyota 4Runner isn’t going to be a bargain price. But have no fear, Consumer Reports says this SUV can do it all. Do you need a lot of supplies to take the whole family on a weekend trip? The 4Runner has room for it all. Want to go off-roading and camping? This SUV is capable of both. Plus, it has the reliability Toyota is known for, and it holds resale value, unlike similar SUVs.

The powerful V6 engine gets the job done but isn’t the most fuel-efficient option. The road test and owner satisfaction scores were average, but the reliability was above-average. Consumer Reports also says that forward collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) are standard.

Price Range:  $35,850 – $47,925

Owner reported MPG: 19 mpg

Need a reliable truck? Check out the Toyota Tundra

The 2019 Toyota Tundra is one of the more reliable trucks you can actually find right now. Consumer Reports was pretty impressed with the Toyota truck on the road test. Both the reliability and owner satisfaction scores came in above-average. One of the highlights of the Tundra is the available configurations. The Tundra does it all with three cab sizes, three different bed options, and a few engine offers.

The Toyota Tundra is an excellent in-between option depending on what you need this truck for. It isn’t the most luxurious or powerful truck on the market, but it has a lot to offer buyers. “The Tundra’s biggest advantage is its consistent superior reliability,” Consumer Reports said. FCW, AEB, lane departure warning (LDW), and adaptive cruise control are also standard.

Price Range:  $33,675 – $52,825

Owner reported MPG: 16 mpg

The Nissan Murano is one of the best SUVs

Those looking for a reliable SUV need to look beyond the 2019 Nissan Murano. Consumer Reports called it “refined and comfortable” and gave the reliable SUV high marks on the road test. The reliability was far above average, and owners reported 23 mpg overall. The interior is well-finished and easy to get used to, and Nissan included an eight-inch color display on some trim levels. FCW and AEB came standard on the Murano in 2019.

Price Range:  $27,075 – $35,275

Owner reported MPG: 23 mpg

Another reliable SUV option is the Lexus NX

Depending on who you ask, the 2019 Lexus NX checks all the reliable SUV boxes. Owners reported being unsatisfied with the visibility and stiff ride. Beyond that, the Lexus SUV scored well on the road test and the reliability. The NX gets a pretty solid 24 mpg overall, and the hybrid option even racks up 29 mpg overall. FCW, AEB, LDW, and lane-keeping assist (LKA) are standard. BSW and rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW) were optional, but you might be able to find one of these reliable SUVs with all of the options.

Price Range:  $33,975 – $38,900

Owner reported MPG: 25 mpg

These aren’t the only reliable SUV options on the market. However, some used sport utility vehicles and trucks aren’t worth the headache. Finding a Certified Pre-Owned option is always a good idea, too.
