The BMW iX is the brand’s first all-electric SUV. In addition to the panache of the BMW badges, the iX offers over 300 miles of range and all of the luxuries you may expect. In addition to cars like the Audi e-Tron and the Rivian R1S, one of its main rivals is the Tesla Model X. If you’re in the market for either of these EVs, then here are a few reasons why the BMW iX could be a better choice.

1. The BMW iX has an aggressively futuristic look

Let’s face it, upon first glance, the BMW iX looks a bit odd. Some may like the massive front grille, others may not. But no matter which way you slice it, you have to admit that it looks aggressive and futuristic. The iX’s bold body lines and contours make it look like a concept car come to life. In fact, it’s even based on the Vision iNext concept that appeared back in 2018.

On the other hand, the Tesla Model X looks bland in comparison. Sure, it looks futuristic, but it’s actually looking a little long in the tooth. It doesn’t help that it also looks a bit cookie-cutter like other Teslas in the model line.

2. The BMW iX offers better road handling capabilities

Compared to the Tesla Model X, the BMW iX handles the road better thanks to a couple of tricks up its sleeve. One trick is its adjustable air suspension, which helps it soak up bumps and hold the road well.

The second trick is via its optional rear-wheel steering, which helps in low-speed and parking lot situations. The Model X may handle decently, but the iX handles better. According to Edmunds, “it offers a more refined and luxurious driving experience than the Tesla Model X and sportier performance than the Audi e-Tron.”

3. The iX has a more robust interior than the Tesla Model X

Just like the Model X, the BMW iX is easy to get in and out of. And once you’re in, the interior of the iX is gorgeous to look at. You would probably never guess that the interior materials are made from recycled stuff like old fishing nets and nylon waste. Once you look past that, you’ll notice that the iX looks and feels solid. There’s a 12.3-inch driver info display that flows into a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and a hexagonal steering wheel that looks unconventional but functional.

Yes, the Model X does have a futuristic interior as well, but we think that the iX’s interior looks a lot more robust.

4. Yes, the iX also has Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity

Lastly, if you like to use Apple Carplay or Android Auto while you drive – like most people – then you’ll be happy to know that the BMW iX comes with both. The Tesla Model X, however, does not. Enough said.

The BMW iX versus the Tesla Model X

When it comes to choosing between these two all-electric SUVs, the choice can be a little tough. They both cost about the same and they both get the same type of electric range. However, if you take these four points into consideration, you may be able to see that the BMW iX could be the better choice for you.
