The hybrid compact SUV vehicle segment is heating up. Plenty of popular automakers now produce hybrid SUV models. The Hyundai Tuscon Hybrid appears to be the leader of the pack. Here’s why it’s a better buy than the 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is more affordable than the CR-V Hybrid

Hybrid SUVs are often $4,000+ more expensive than their gas counterparts. The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid costs almost $5,000 more than the Tucson, but the hybrid version provides plenty of value for under $30K.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid starts at $29,750. It is one of the few hybrid SUV models with a starting price under $30K. The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid starts at $32,010. The price difference between the two hybrid SUV models is $2,260.

This may not seem like a huge difference, but the CR-V Hybrid base model’s starting price is closer to the Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience’s starting price. When it comes to value, it seems like the Tucson Hybrid has the Honda CR-V beat.

The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is the more fuel-efficient hybrid SUV

Both the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid have stellar fuel economy. The Tucson Hybrid achieves a whopping 38 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway. The Honda CR-V Hybrid gets 40 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid only gets one more mile per gallon combined, but that equates to an extra 14.3 miles of driving range because of its 14.3-gallon tank. In total, the Tucson Hybrid gets nearly 14.5 more miles of driving range than the CR-V Hybrid. That driving range is useful when a driver needs to find gas quickly.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine to make 226 horsepower. The 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to make 212 horsepower.

The Tucson Hybrid is slightly quicker than the CR-V. The Tucson Hybrid Limited is also quicker than the CR-V Hybrid Touring final trim. Both hybrid SUVs offer engaging driving dynamics, but the Tucson Hybrid is slightly more exciting to drive.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid’s exterior design is incredible. Style is subjective, but the Tucson’s bold character lines, headlights, and rims are hard to ignore. The Tucson Hybrid looks fierce and futuristic, while the CR-V Hybrid looks familiar.
