The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is an all-new compact crossover SUV. Given the success of the best-selling Corolla sedan, the Corolla Cross should be very competitive against other compact SUVs, such as the 2022 Honda CR-V. However, the CR-V has multiple advantages in its favor. Here are four reasons to buy a 2022 Honda CR-V, and not a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross.

Unlike the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross, the 2022 Honda CR-V offers a hybrid model

The first reason to buy the 2022 Honda CR-V instead of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is that, unlike the Corolla Cross, the CR-V offers a hybrid model. While Toyota has long dominated the hybrid segment with the iconic Toyota Prius and many other hybrid models, it doesn’t yet offer a hybrid version of the Corolla Cross. While that might change in the future, it’s not in the cards for the 2022 model year.

Given the very high price of gas these days, a hybrid model like the CR-V Hybrid is very appealing. It gets a gas-sipping estimated fuel economy of up to 38 combined mpg, compared to a gas mileage of 32 combined mpg for the Corolla Cross. The fully gas-powered version of the CR-V gets an estimated fuel economy of 30 combined mpg.

The second reason to buy the 2022 Honda CR-V instead of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is the CR-V delivers better performance than the Corolla Cross. Both of the powertrains in CR-V generate a higher output than the engine offered for the Corolla Cross.

Honda CR-V:

  • Turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine: 190 hp
  • Hybrid powertrain: 212 hp

Toyota Corolla Cross:

  • 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine: 169 hp

2022 CR-V is more spacious than the 2022 Corolla Cross

The third reason to buy the 2022 Honda CR-V instead of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is the CR-V is more spacious than the Corolla Cross. While both crossover SUVs can seat up to five passengers, the CR-V provides more passenger space. It has a total passenger volume of 105.9 cu-ft, compared to 95.0 cu-ft for the Corolla Cross.

The amount of space is especially more noticeable for the rear seat passengers. The CR-V has 40.4 inches of rear legroom, compared to 32.0 inches for the Corolla Cross.

The larger interior of the CR-V also translates to more storage space. It has a maximum cargo capacity of 75.8 cu-ft, compared to 26.5 cu-ft for the Corolla Cross.

Honda CR-V has a higher-quality interior than the Toyota Corolla Cross

The fourth reason to buy the 2022 Honda CR-V instead of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is the CR-V has a higher-quality interior than the Corolla Cross. Compared to the Corolla Cross, the CR-V’s cabin is more refined with a greater use of premium materials. Also, the CR-V has many interior features that the Corolla Cross doesn’t offer. This includes a power passenger’s seat, a navigation system, a seat memory function, a universal garage door opener, and woodgrain interior trim.

The 2022 Honda CR-V has multiple advantages, including a hybrid model, better performance, more interior space, and a high-quality interior. These advantages give the CR-V an edge for buying it instead of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross.
