The Ford Mustang is one of the most iconic American muscle cars in history. While the competition has remained fierce over the years, updates and advancements made to the Mustang have kept it competitive. If you’re trying to decide between a 2022 Ford Mustang and a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, read on for four reasons why the Mustang has the edge over Chevy’s sports car.

The 2022 Ford Mustang has a higher-quality interior than the 2022 Chevy Camaro

The Ford Mustang’s interior features classic styling that looks clean and vintage without sacrificing comfort or modern design. It doesn’t follow the barebones mentality of the Ford GT’s interior, fortunately.

In comparison, the 2022 Camaro’s interior feels “cheap and dated.” The Chevy Camaro does have slightly more standard interior features than the Mustang, but Ford’s sporty muscle car has a quality you can see and feel. That’s worth upgrading to a higher trim level tier for a few extra features.

The new Mustang has a faster 0-60 time than the Chevrolet Camaro

Base models are pretty close in performance for both the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro. However, if you’re looking for the best performance, acceleration, and speed, you’ll want to look at the top of the line.

The fastest Mustang is the Shelby GT500, with a 760-horsepower 5.2-liter V8 engine. With this powertrain on board, the Shelby GT500 has a 0-60 time of just 3.3 seconds. A standard Mustang has a 0-60 time closer to 4.5 seconds.

But, the fastest Camaro is no slouch. The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is equipped with a 650-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine. It has a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds. You’ve got to give it to the Camaro—it’s only 0.2 seconds slower with 110 less horsepower. Still, the Mustang is faster.

The 2022 Mustang is more fuel-efficient than the 2022 Camaro

You may not be thinking about the gas pump when shopping for a high-performance sports car—but maybe you should. Today’s muscle cars are a lot more mindful of fuel economy than they used to be, and you can get a relatively efficient car. Though, keep in mind that the more economical models will be less powerful.

When comparing the most fuel-efficient models, the 2022 Ford Mustang pulls ahead of the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro. The Mustang’s turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine is good for up to 32 mpg highway. That’s better than some weak-sauce family sedans. The Camaro four-cylinder engine is only good for about 29 mpg on the highway.

If you’re looking for pre-owned sports cars like a used Ford Mustang or a used Camaro, you’re likely to see similar differences in fuel economy ratings.

The 2022 Ford Mustang has more trunk space than the Camaro

This is another car-shopping detail that might not come to mind right away, but sports car trunk space is important. You’re going to want to drive the car you buy—and eventually, you’ll need some storage for a long day or weekend trip.

The 2022 Ford Mustang offers 13.5 cubic feet of storage space in the trunk, while the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro gives you just 9.1 cubic feet. That’s almost nothing. Note that these figures are for sedan or fastback models—convertible models will have less space for cargo storage.

With all this in mind: choose the Mustang over the Camaro

The Ford Mustang tidily won best sports car when compared to the new Chevrolet Camaro, according to U.S. News in its head-to-head-to-head competition. The Mustang’s combination of comfort, safety ratings, and power make it a great choice over the Camaro.
