The 2023 Toyota GR Supra is one of the most impressive sports cars available today, delivering a powerful combination of performance and design. While the coupe offers appealing driving dynamics, the high price tag may put off many potential buyers. The 2023 GR Supra has a starting price of $43,540 for the entry-level model and an MSRP of $55,650 for the 3.0 Premium trim.

For those not willing to break the bank, we have discovered four satisfying alternatives to the Toyota GR Supra, all economically priced under $40,000.

The Subaru BRZ offers impressive fuel economy

While slightly pricier than last year’s model, the 2023 Subaru BRZ still comes in under $40,000, costing less than the 2023 Toyota GR Supra.

The 2023 BRZ has a starting price of $28,595 for the Premium trim and $31,095 for the Limited edition. Both models get their power from a 2.4-liter flat-four engine that offers excellent fuel economy of 21 City mpg / 30 Hwy mpg when paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive BRZ sports coupe delivers 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque with an independent suspension.

The four-passenger BRZ has a fold-down rear seatback and can accommodate up to four passengers. While the back seats are cramped with limited storage space and the audio system underdelivers, there is no better choice for the money.

According to Edmunds, “The Subaru BRZ reminds us all that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a great drive.” They claim the sports car is “super fun to drive thanks to precise handling and steering” and offers an agreeable ride quality with a driver-friendly control layout.

Get the Dodge Challenger before it’s gone!

If you are interested in a Dodge Challenger, don’t delay! Seven ‘last call’ editions are made available before the line goes away.

Winner of the 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Car Styling Brand Image Award, the Dodge Challenger has an MSRP of $30,940, which is far more affordable than the Toyota GR Supra. The five-seat Challenger is one of the last classic American muscle cars and offers plenty of trim levels and customization options.

The base model Dodge Challenger SXT 2-door coupe features a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that puts out an EPA-estimated combined 23 mpg, delivering 303 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque.

Although the vehicle is heavy and rear visibility can be slightly compromised, nothing compares to the power of the available V8 engines. While Edmunds was not impressed with the interior refinement or cumbersome handling, it claims the Challenger is a “hoot to drive” and a “champ out on the open road.”

The Dodge Charger is one of America’s last full-size sedans

The 2023 Dodge Charger SXT also falls below the $40K threshold, with a starting price of $32,645 for this four-door, entry-level muscle car.

The 3.6-liter V6 engine boasts 292 hp with 260 lb-ft of torque when paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With fast-acting brakes and quick acceleration, the Charger offers a powerful punch, albeit somewhat lackluster handling. For consumers looking for fuel efficiency, the gas guzzler will fail to impress with an EPA-estimated combined rating of less than 18 mpg.

Despite the Charger’s shortcomings, Edmunds claims, “No other American sedan has the same combination of performance, comfort and muscle car style as the Charger.”

The Kia Stinger has plenty of storage space

The 2023 Kia Stinger has an MSRP of $36,590. Its unique design features a sleek hatchback that looks like nothing else on the road and offers plenty of cargo-carrying capacity, in stark difference to the streamlined coupe look of the Toyota GR Supra.

The sporty sedan features a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. An available V6 upgrade will generate up to 368 hp and an enhanced exhaust sound.

Edmunds claims that while the “overall performance doesn’t quite live up to the sport sedan looks,” the Kia Stinger will not leave drivers bored. Even though there is limited headroom for passengers and the ride can prove jittery at times, the “entertaining levels of performance” and “refined interior” make up for the Stinger’s downfalls.
