Electric pickup trucks were once completely novel to the automotive industry just a few years ago. Today, America has already seen the rise of two electric pickup truck nameplates. The Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning are respectively America’s first pickup trucks. The Chevy Silverado EV and Ram 1500 EV are coming within the next few years to challenge the R1T and F-150 Lightning. Here’s how these four electric pickup trucks are shaping the electric future before our very eyes.

The Rivian R1T is leading the charge

The Rivian R1T is the first electric pickup truck to be produced in America. The R1T paved the way for future electric pickup trucks with its power and unique capabilities.

The Rivian R1T Launch Edition makes a massive 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. It is the quickest pickup truck available on the market. The R1T Launch Edition can go from 0-60 miles per hour in about 3.2 seconds.

The R1T Launch Edition makes the mighty Ram 1500 TRX look slow. It also has serious off-roading chops. The electric truck even bested the Hell’s Gate off-road trail in Moab, Utah.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the first affordable electric truck

The Ford F-150 Lightning comes in four different trim levels. The F-150 Lightning Pro starts at $39,974. The first round of F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks are eligible for the full $7,500 electric vehicle federal tax credit.

After the tax incentive, the F-150 Lightning Pro’s price is closer to $32,474. The Rivian R1T Launch Edition may be America’s first electric truck, but the F-150 Lightning Pro is the most affordable electric truck.

The F-150 Lightning Pro combines familiar F-150 styling with enhanced practicality and utility. The electric pickup truck has the potential to become America’s favorite electric truck.

The Chevy Silverado EV has a lot to prove

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is far from the best truck in its vehicle segment. GM CEO Mary Barra claims that the Chevy Silverado EV will become the best electric pickup truck. While General Motors has as good a chance as any automaker at producing a great electric truck, it’s competing with class leaders.

The Silverado EV will be a Ford F-150 Lightning rival. Since the Rivian R1T is much more expensive than the F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV, the electric GM truck is competing against the F-150 Lightning more closely.

The Ram 1500 EV already has a reputation to uphold

Most new electric pickup trucks from major automakers are spinoffs of existing popular nameplates. The Ford F-150 may be America’s most popular full-size pickup, but the Ram 1500 has consistently been the best American truck on the market. Car and Driver gave the 2022 Ram 1500 a perfect overall score.

The Ram 1500 EV has big shoes to fill, and it’s tough to imagine that Ram won’t deliver after years of producing quality full-size pickup trucks. The Ram 1500 EV is coming much later than Ford and GM’s electric pickups, but it’s sure to disrupt the vehicle segment when it arrives.
