Once the iconic symbol of America, the full-size sedan market is shrinking. It is now dominated by a select few models, including muscle cars and sports cars. If you are looking for a traditional, full-size sedan, the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon and the 2022 Chrysler 300 are two of the few remaining options sold by a mainstream brand.

The 2023 Volkswagen Arteon midsize sedan is the brand’s flagship model. The 2022 Chrysler 300 is a full-size sedan offered in a few trim levels. So, which is the best large car for you? Here’s a look at the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon and its advantages over the Chrysler 300.

1. Better standard warranty

Warranty coverage is one of the most important considerations when buying a car. You don’t want to be paying for every repair out of pocket. The first advantage the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon has over the Chrysler 300 is a better standard warranty.

Volkswagen offers coverage for four years or 50,000-mile on their standard warranty and four years or 50,000 miles of powertrain warranty for the 2024 Arteon. The German automaker also offers free maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles.

On the other hand, Chrysler’s standard warranty only covers three years or 36,000 miles. Unlike Volkswagen, Chrysler doesn’t offer a complimentary maintenance plan. The only thing Chrysler has over the Arteon is the longer Powertrain warranty, which covers five years or 60,000 miles.

2. More horsepower and torque on baseline engines

Horsepower and torque determine the work potential of a vehicle’s engine. More power means better overall performance. So, which of these two large sedans comes with the more powerful baseline engine?

The 2023 Volkswagen Arteon comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, capable of generating 300-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque—channeled by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Chrysler 300 features a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

With the Arteon pulling ahead in terms of more horsepower and torque, you should expect better acceleration and overall performance from the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon over the Chrysler.

3. Better fuel economy ratings (mpg)

Fuel economy is another important consideration when buying a car as gas prices consistently inch higher. Vehicles offering better fuel economy cost less to operate and is another area the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon triumphs over the Chrysler 300.

According to Car and Driver, the Arteon fares better on real-world testing, beating the Chrysler by one mpg in the EPA highway estimates despite having a more powerful engine. Regarding fuel efficiency, the 3.6-liter V6 under the 300’s hood leaves a lot to be desired.

Buying the Arteon can save you thousands of dollars in fuel costs over time, even with the slight difference in miles per gallon. If you keep the car long enough, you can even balance a higher purchase price.

4. More cargo capacity

A traditional 4-door sedan with a generous trunk is hard to come by these days. Automakers are making smaller and more aerodynamic cars, mainly at the expense of cargo space. The 2023 Volkswagen Arteon and the Chrysler 300 are no different.

The 2023 Volkswagen Arteon has 27.2 cu-ft of trunk space behind the rear seats, expanding to 56.2 cu-ft when you fold the rear seats. The 300 has a cargo capacity of 16.3 cu-ft. You can split-fold rear seats to increase cargo space—though not by much since they don’t fold completely flat.

CNBC says the automotive industry is shifting from full-size sedans to sport utility vehicles and crossovers. If you are in the market for a traditional, full-size sedan at the moment, the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon and the Chrysler 300 are worth a look. However, the Arteon does offer several advantages over the Chrysler.
