Both the 2023 Toyota Tacoma and the 2023 Jeep Gladiator deserve respect as capable off-roading trucks. Rivals aren’t in the same league. Even with its longer wheelbase, the Gladiator still dominates the wild.

Edmunds shared that the Tacoma outshines all of its rivals except for the Gladiator while off-roading. So, give it a chance. Also, the Tacoma has an excellent reputation for reliability. J.D. Power gave it a score of 83 out of 100.

The Gladiator earned an 85 out of 100, placing it slightly ahead. Check out other areas where the Gladiator has surprising victories.

1. Is the Jeep Gladiator bigger than the Toyota Tacoma?

Yes, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator is larger than the 2023 Toyota Tacoma. That could provide disadvantages on narrow off-roading trails, but at least you can remove the side mirrors and take advantage of diesel power.

Anyways, the Gladiator provides more passenger space in the front and rear, so it can be more comfortable for taller folks. Drivers often complain that the seats in the Tacoma sit too low to the floor, and the passenger seat could use more adjustment controls.

Also, the Tacoma has a frustratingly small rear seat. It’s easier to install child seats and access under-seat storage compartments. The Tacoma does have an advantage with small item storage thanks to cubbies and trays, though.

2. Is the Gladiator more comfortable than the Tacoma?

According to Consumer Reports, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator has a better performance on the road than the 2023 Toyota Tacoma. The Gladiator has a similar rear suspension setup to the Ram 1500 that provides a smoother ride on the pavement.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma could benefit from an updated transmission. It sometimes feels laggy and clumsy. Also, the Gladiator has more confident breaks. Both trucks have vague steering. The handling isn’t exactly sporty, either.

The Tacoma has a slightly faster acceleration than the Gladiator, but the climate control system is stronger in the Gladiator. Plus, the Gladiator is a convertible.

3. The Gladiator has more muscle than the Tacoma

The 2023 Jeep Gladiator has a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can go diesel with the turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that cranks out 260 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque.
