As a mid-size truck, the 2022 Nissan Frontier has been a serious hit for the brand. Nissan waited nearly 20 years to finally update its pickup, and there is honestly a lot to love about the new model. Yes, this truck does still feel pretty old-school. Especially when compared to something like a Ford Ranger, but that is just a part of its charm. These top three upgrades might be why the 2022 Frontier has found renewed interest in this segment.

The 2022 Frontier has a standard V6

If you are looking for a mid-size truck that comes with a V6 engine, Nissan has the answer. For 2022, the Frontier comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6. Because of this, you do not have to pay extra to get the power of six cylinders.

This powerplant makes 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. This engine was featured in the prior generation Frontier, but now it is the sole engine. Because of that, you do not need to worry about which engine to pick. The engine is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and this pickup offers rear or four-wheel drive.

The suspension has been revised

In order to make this mid-size truck more comfortable, Nissan has revisited the suspension. Now, don’t get us wrong, this still rides like a truck. It is not as comfortable as something like a Honda Ridgeline, but it seems like truck drivers appreciate that.

The 2022 Frontier still offers a connected feel to the road. And, it is a body-on-frame pickup. The suspension is not the only improved part of this truck. The steering feels more direct and the chassis enhancements have helped with on-road comfort.

The 2022 Frontier interior feels more modern

Because it had been almost 20 years since Nissan gave the Frontier a full redesign, the interior was starting to feel dated. But now, the interior feels more modern and usable. Nissan changed things like trim pieces and added in a new gauge cluster which features a 7.0-inch color display. According to Car and Driver, the seats also feel more comfortable than its predecessor.

For those that live in places with winter climates, the available heated seats and heated steering wheel are likely to be appreciated. For an additional cost, buyers can opt for a Fender sound system and various safety tech.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier worth buying?

The new Frontier has a starting cost of under $30,000, and that makes it fairly affordable. But, higher trim levels can quickly climb up in price. If you are in search of an off-road truck, Nissan is still offering the PRO-4X model. This pickup features a range of off-road tech to help you handle the road less traveled.

In terms of utility, the Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs. This means it cannot tow as much as some of its rivals, but it is still a respectful number. Nissan was able to increase the payload capacity so you can haul more.
