The rise of hands-free driving technology is one of the most exciting parts of the modern world of SUVs. Though the market hasn’t reached perfected full self-driving status yet, quite a few vehicles on the market show real promise with their respective hands-free or autonomous driving technology. Here are three top SUVs with great forms of self-driving technology.

The Cadillac Escalade has Super Cruise self-driving technology

Overall, it’s generally accepted that the Cadillac Escalade has one of the best versions of self-driving technology on the market. It’s called Super Cruise, and, according to Cadillac, it’s considered the first true hands-free driving technology. Essentially, the vehicle steers itself and can even perform lane changes. The great thing is that the Cadillac Escalade features a camera to ensure the driver is paying attention, as it only works if this is the case.

The Cadillac Super Cruise technology only works on compatible roads. Luckily, this covers over 200,000 miles across the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, the system uses real-time precise positioning along with Cadillac Connected Services to ensure the detection of every curve or potential obstruction. You can only get Super Cruise on the Cadillac Escalade with at least the Premium Luxury trim. The 2021 and 2022 Cadillac Escalade models can also have the technology.

The BMW X5 can somewhat drive itself

The BMW X5 also has pretty good self-driving technology. It’s not as extensive as what the Cadillac Escalade offers, but it’s a nice aid in certain situations. Self-driving in the BMW X5 is an add-on called the Driving Assistance Professional package. It allows the vehicle to steer itself when going under 40 miles per hour under some driving conditions. It includes traffic jam assist and adaptive cruise control.

This speed requirement may sound a bit limiting, but there are actually quite a few occurrences when drivers go under 40 miles per hour. In addition to offering self-driving technology, the BMW X5 is an all-around great series of SUVs that offers impeccable performance. Also, the 2023 BMW X5 has a pretty high-reliability rating, which is always a great thing for a more expensive vehicle.

Nissan Ariya has a promising capability

The 2023 Nissan Ariya is an all-electric SUV with self-driving capabilities. Again, it may not be as fancy as what the 2023 Cadillac Escalade has to offer, but it’s still pretty great. The Nissan Ariya system is called ProPilot Assist 2.0. It allows for hands-off single-lane driving as well as guided lane changes. It can also help with fitting into tight spaces as well as with traffic. ProPilot Assist 2.0 can also help with changing acceleration, coming to a complete stop, and more.

The Nissan Ariya is one of Nissan’s newest vehicles. Overall, it provides excellent performance and has a spacious interior with some pretty advanced technology. It may not have the most advanced self-driving technology, but it’s more than nothing. It’ll be interesting to see how much all automakers are able to evolve the technology in the years to come.
