The 2023 Ford Mustang marks the end of the S550 generation of the pony car before Ford rolls out its seventh-generation models. While it’s not as advanced as the upcoming S650 car, the 2023 Mustang offers a lot. Here are three things that fans of fast Fords can like about the last of the sixth-generation Mustangs, like the powerful Coyote engine.

What engine will the 2023 Mustang have?

The 2023 Ford Mustang carries over the turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and the 5.0L Coyote V8. Moreover, the EcoBoost produces 310 horsepower, the Coyote in the GT produces 450 horsepower, and the Coyote V8 in the Mach 1 makes 480 horsepower.

Additionally, one of the things U.S. News likes about the 2023 Ford Mustang is its “vigorous engine options.” Specifically, the four-cylinder EcoBoost is one of the top-performing sports cars at its price point. Moreover, the EcoBoost High Performance package punches the four-cylinder Mustang’s power output to 330 horsepower. Better yet, the upcoming S650-generation of Mustang will also pack the EcoBoost and Coyote engines, albeit with a bump in power.

Does the Mustang have good handling?

The 2023 Ford Mustang has good handling, especially compared to competitors like the Dodge Challenger. The sixth-generation models are the first to incorporate independent rear suspension in lieu of a live rear axle, making for more responsive cornering.

The Mustang’s tight handling is one of the attributes that U.S. News likes about the model. Compared to a bigger, heavier Dodge Challenger, the sixth-generation Ford Mustang is more agile, light, and prone to competent cornering. Of course, for potential muscle car owners who want a razor-sharp track animal, the Ford Mustang Mach 1 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE are better bets.

The 2023 Ford Mustang’s seats and cargo capacity are daily-driver level

In addition to the 2023 Ford Mustang’s powerful engines and sharp handling, the Mustang’s front seats and cargo volume are usable and practical. The Mustang’s seats are supportive and comfortable. However, they’re not as wide as a comparable Dodge Challenger’s front seats. Still, with optional RECARO seats in trims like the Mach 1, the Mustang offers sporty options in addition to comfortable seats.

Moreover, the 2023 Ford Mustang’s cargo capacity establishes it as a shopping and commuting companion. Compared to sports cars like the Subaru BRZ and Mazda MX-5, the Mustang has more than twice as much cargo volume. Better yet, with up to 13.5 cubic feet of capacity, the new Mustang has more cargo volume than a comparable Chevrolet Camaro.

What’s wrong with the 2023 Ford Mustang?

While the 2023 Mustang has many redeeming qualities, like its handling and engine options, the pony car also has some issues. For instance, the 2023 model year doesn’t include a Shelby option, meaning the Mach 1 is its top-tier offering. Moreover, the Mustang’s rear seats are much tighter than a comparable Dodge Challenger. Also, while the Ford model’s cargo capacity is generous for the segment, the Challenger has a much larger trunk.
