However, the newest F-150 gets “jittery and choppy on bumpy roads.” While it is tolerable to drive most of the time, it pales compared to competitors. One of the leaders in full-size pickups, the Ram 1500, is notably more comfortable to drive. Often, it’s compared to a luxury vehicle in the shape of a pickup truck.

Unfortunately, CR reviewers said they experienced considerably large bouncing when hitting bumps. Pickups are supposed to be able to handle the open road with ease. Additionally, off-roading becomes difficult when sharper bumps cause such a stir. That’s why CR noted riding over bumps as a weak point for the 2022 Ford F-150.

Handling and agility aren’t the F-150’s strong suit

Compared to the 2021 model year, the 2022 F-150 turns into corners slightly better. However, CR reported that steering is slow and doesn’t offer much feedback, and the front end is slower and clumsier than rivals. The Ram 1500 and Silverado 1500 both beat the Ford pickup in terms of agility. Because of its size and slow steering, the F-150 isn’t an excellent option for acceleration on curvy roads. Areas requiring frequent steering wheel inputs are best taken slow.

When CR took the 2022 Ford F-150 around its course, “rapid hand work” was required to maneuver the pickup around the course created to simulate swerving to avoid obstacles in the road quickly. However, it performed well in terms of speed and security through the exercise on a positive note. Lastly, the F-150’s rear tires remain planted around curves while the front tires lose grip reasonably quickly.

The 2022 Ford F-150 has a high step-in

The F-150’s crew cab version has tons of passenger space and the silent interior rivals luxury cars. However, getting inside the pickup truck can be a challenge on its own. According to CR, even with running boards, getting inside the cabin takes a big step up. Additionally, grab handles were included with the publication’s test vehicle, which made things a bit easier. Although, stepping onto the running board then stepping into the truck’s cabin while pulling yourself inside might prove difficult for some people.

Especially for someone switching from a small car or SUV to a pickup, the F-150’s height can be a bit jarring. CR reported that opting for the Lariat model lands owners optional power running boards. These are lower and wider than the XLT version and make the pickup’s exterior look nicer. However, they make a surprisingly large amount of noise when deploying or retracting.

Should you buy a 2022 Ford F-150?
