British automaker Lotus Cars is producing an SUV model. The Lotus Eletre will compete with other luxury sports SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX707. Here’s what you need to know about Lotus’ SUV model.

The Lotus Eletre is the company’s first SUV model

Lotus Cars was founded way back in 1948. The brand has built a name for itself by producing luxury sports cars like the impressive Lotus Elise. The Lotus Eletre is actually the automaker’s first foray into the SUV realm. The brand couldn’t have chosen a better time as the SUV vehicle segment has become dominant in many countries.

The Lamborghini Urus proved that consumers were willing to take a chance on an SUV produced by a luxury automaker. The Urus quickly became a cultural phenomenon and a new status symbol of wealth. Now automakers like Ferrari are throwing their hat in the ring and producing SUVs as well. The Ferrari Purosangue SUV has recently been teased.

The Lotus Eletre EV will compete with some of the most esteemed automakers in the industry. Luckily, the brand’s first SUV has something that most of its competitors don’t.

How do you compete with mighty V8 engines produced by automakers like Lamborghini? Simple. You don’t. Lotus Cars is distinguishing its SUV model from the competition by making its powertrain different from its rivals.

Electric SUV models may be becoming much more common, but it’s rare for a brand like Lotus Cars to release an electric SUV. The closest the industry has to a popular electric super SUV is the Tesla Model X Plaid. The Lotus Eletre isn’t just the first Lotus SUV. It’s also the first Lotus electric SUV model, making the vehicle even more groundbreaking.

The big difference between the Eletre and other luxury sports SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus is fuel economy. Models with large V8 engines tend to get horrible gas mileage. The Lotus Eletre runs on electricity, so consumers won’t have to deal with high gas prices to refuel it. The best part about the Eletre’s powertrain system is that it produces just as much power as a mighty V8, if not more.

The Lotus Eletre EV is marketed as the world’s first-ever hyper-SUV. Why call it a hyper-SUV? According to Car and Driver, the Eletre EV makes an insane 900 horsepower in the tri-motor configuration. That’s 259 more horses than the popular Lamborghini Urus. Eletre EV models with long-range batteries will have a 373-mile driving range.

The Eletre EV is a mechanical marvel that shatters records for both luxury sports SUVs and EVs. Lotus stepped up to the plate, and it clearly has an edge over some rivals.
