Let’s face it; everyone is trying to find a dependable car, truck, and SUV right now. These are some reliable SUVs under $50,000 that received positive feedback on the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey. Some important Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are not included on the entry-level options, so be sure to check for those before settling on your new car.
Yep, the Mazda CX-9 is a reliable SUV under $50,000 that topped Consumer Reports’ list
When it comes to the 2022 Mazda CX-9, Consumer Reports gave it high marks for reliability. The Annual Auto Survey looks at more than 320,000 vehicles, and this Mazda SUV was in the top 10. The CX-9 performed well on the road test, and owners were satisfied overall. With three rows and room for seven passengers, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 is definitely one of the reliable SUVs under $50,000.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave this Mazda SUV the Top Safety Pick Plus award. That means the CX-9 got “high” scores on all IIHS tests. Mazda also equipped the SUV with plenty of standard safety features. Forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), and blind-spot warning (BSW) are all included.
Price Range: $35,630 – $47,560
The Toyota Highlander is another reliable SUV under $50,000
The 2022 Toyota Highlander checks the boxes for reliable SUVs under $50,000. The top-level trim will go over budget, but you don’t necessarily need that to get a functional and safe sport utility vehicle. The Highlander has enough room for everyone with three rows and 22 mpg for combined fuel economy. It also has high scores on the road test and the area of owner satisfaction.
The IIHS gave the 2022 Highlander the Top Safety Pick Plus award. Toyota’s Highlander also received high scores on all of the crashworthiness tests. FCW and LDW are standard, but BSW is only optional. Rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW) is also optional.
Price Range: $35,855 – $51,460
Don’t overlook the Subaru Crosstrek sport utility vehicle
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek came first out of 15 other subcompact sport utility vehicles. Consumer Reports gave it high scores on the road test and reliability section, while owners reported being satisfied with the Subaru too. The Crosstrek only has room for five passengers, so it might not be big enough for some buyers. However, the 2022 Crosstrek is a reliable SUV under $50,000.
Like the other options, Subaru’s 2022 Crosstrek was an IIHS Top Safety Pick. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Subaru SUV four and five-star scores on its crash tests.
Price Range: $23,145 – $36,345
Money doesn’t go as far as it used to, but hopefully, these reliable SUVs under $50,000 from Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda will help. Safety is also important, which is why the scores from the IIHS and NHTSA are important. As more 2023 vehicles roll in, you might be able to find a good deal on the outgoing model year options.
