The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular trucks in America. It’s clear that there are a lot of reasons to buy one. The truck starts at about $34,000 and has many standard features. Here are three reasons shoppers should buy the 2023 Ford F-150 and three reasons they shouldn’t.

1. The 2023 Ford F-150 has high towing and payload capacities

One of the main reasons the F-150 is ranked highly by TrueCar is its towing and payload capacities. The truck has a standard towing of about 9,700 pounds, but when it’s properly equipped, it can tow up to 14,000 pounds. That’s the highest towing capacity in the segment. The Ford truck has a max payload capacity of about 3,300 pounds, which is a high amount for the segment.

2. Car shoppers have a lot of options to consider

Since the truck is so popular, the Detroit-based automaker also provides a wide variety of options so owners can customize their trucks to their liking. Truck shoppers can choose between the Regular Cab, the SuperCab, and the SuperCrew options.

Ford also offers three truck bed options which can be 5.5 feet long, 6.5 feet long, or 8 feet long. The truck also has eight trim levels, ranging from the basic standard trim to expensive trims that turn the truck into a luxury vehicle.

3. Ford gave the F-150 several powertrain options too

The F-150 has a wide variety of powertrain options, allowing owners to customize the truck. It starts with a 3.3-liter V6 that gets 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Ford currently offers six other engine options. Four of them are more powerful V6s, and two of them are V8s. The most powerful option is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8, which gets 700 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque.

Another notable powertrain option is the hybrid. It features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that works with an electric motor to get 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid option provides the truck with a great balance of specs while providing 25 mpg combined, which makes it the most efficient powertrain option.

1. The 2023 Ford F-150 doesn’t have a great ride quality

One of the F-150’s main rivals is the Ram 1500, which has a smoother ride quality than the Ford. This is true both on-road and off-road, and the top trims don’t get a much better ride quality either. That said, passengers will feel the bumps of the road when they’re in the truck, but they won’t hear too much road or wind noise.

2. Ford didn’t give the F-150 a diesel engine

Despite having so many options, the Detroit-based automaker doesn’t offer a diesel engine option for the truck. In comparison, the F-150’s rivals, such as the Ram 1500 and the Chevy Silverado, have diesel options. Diesel engines have some pros and cons compared to gas-powered engines, and one of those pros is that diesel engines tend to have great towing capacities.

3. Shoppers will have to pay a lot to get access to some features

Another major problem with the truck also has to do with its options. Some of the truck’s desirable options are locked behind the higher trims. Some of those desirable features include a powered driver seat and automatic powered windows. The top trims are also expensive, with the popular Lariat trim starting at $59,000.
