With the 2022 Nissan Frontier, buyers can finally get Nissan’s mid-size truck in its third generation. For nearly 20 years, the Frontier went without any major updates, which led it to feel dated when compared to the competition. If you are shopping for a new mid-size truck, it makes sense that you would want to cross-shop different models. One of the Frontier’s top competitors is the 2022 Chevy Colorado, so, which truck is best?

The 2022 Frontier has a standard V6 engine

One of the biggest changes to the new Frontier is its powertrain. Now, this vehicle comes with a 3.8-liter V6 engine as standard fare. And that means you can enjoy the power of six cylinders without having to pay extra. This engine gives Nissan’s mid-size truck 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot of torque. At the same time, that means you do not have the benefit of multiple engine options.

In the case of the 2022 Chevy Colorado, buyers have to opt to get a V6 engine. This means that you will have to pay extra. The Colorado does come standard with a four-cylinder engine as well as offering a turbodiesel variant. But if you want a V6 truck, it is likely best to opt for the 2022 Frontier.

The new Frontier is a newer truck

The 2022 Chevy Colorado is reaching the end of its life cycle. But as it stands now, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is the newer truck. The Frontier may ride on a frame that dates back to the early 2000s, but its suspension has been revised and it offers a refined interior. According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2022 Frontier has more standard tech than the Chevy Colorado, including standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Frontier even excels at things like safety by offering adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. Once the Colorado is updated, it would not be surprising to see these features come to the table, but for now, Nissan’s mid-size truck takes the cake.

The 2022 Nissan Frontier offers a comfortable ride

While the 2022 Colorado is a fairly comfortable pickup, because the Frontier is newer, it does have a nicer feel to it. In the past, the Frontier has often been one of the lesser mid-size truck in terms of comfort, but now Nissan has changed that. The insulation of the Frontier has been improved when compared to the previous generation and better materials are used.

As a departure from the prior generation, the 2022 Frontier has hydraulic cab mounts which reduce the feel of the road service by 80%. Both of these models do offer off-road capability as well. For Nissan, that means the PRO-4X package, and for Chevy, that is the ZR2 trim. Both are comparable in terms of features.

The 2022 Nissan Frontier is the truck we’ve been waiting for

It seems like forever since the Nissan Frontier was given a true update. But, for 2022 that has all changed. Now, the Frontier feels like a truly modern truck and something that is actually worth buying new.
