Are you thinking about buying either the 2022 Honda Civic or the 2022 Toyota Corolla, but can’t figure out which one to get? The Civic has some advantages in its favor. Here are three reasons to buy a 2022 Honda Civic, not a 2022 Toyota Corolla.

2022 Honda Civic delivers better performance than the 2022 Toyota Corolla

The first reason to buy a 2022 Honda Civic instead of a 2022 Toyota Corolla is the Civic delivers better performance than the Corolla. The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the Civic generates 158 hp. In comparison, the base 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine in the Corolla produces only 139 hp.

For greater performance, the 2022 Civic offers a 180-hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Also, the sporty Civic Si has another iteration of the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 200 hp. In comparison, the other two engine options for the 2022 Corolla are weaker: a 2.0-liter cylinder engine (168 hp) and a hybrid (121 hp).

Both compact cars have more powerful “hot hatch” versions — with the Civic Type R and GR Corolla. However, they are not available for the 2022 model year. Customers will have to wait until the 2023 model year.

2022 Civic has a more spacious interior than the 2022 Corolla

The second reason to buy a 2022 Honda Civic instead of a 2022 Toyota Corolla is the Civic has a more spacious interior than the Corolla. Compact cars, by design, don’t typically have roomy cabins. However, the Civic provides a respectable amount of interior space.

The total passenger volume of both the Civic Sedan and Civic Hatchback is 99.0 cu-ft. In comparison, the Corolla Sedan has a total passenger volume of 88.6 cu-ft, and the Corolla Hatchback has 84.6 cu-ft of passenger space.

Also, the Civic provides more storage space than the Corolla. The Civic Sedan has a cargo capacity of 14.8 cu-ft in the trunk, compared to 13.1 cu-ft for the trunk in the Corolla Sedan. For the hatchback models, the Civic Hatchback has a maximum cargo capacity of 24.5 cu-ft, compared to 23.0 cu-ft for the Corolla Hatchback.

2022 Civic has more standard and available features than the 2022 Corolla

The third reason to buy a 2022 Honda Civic instead of a 2022 Toyota Corolla is the Civic has more standard and available features than the Corolla. The base trims for the compact cars are the Civic LX and the Corolla L. Unlike the Corolla L, the Civic LX has standard and available features like a rear spoiler, performance tires, fog lamps, keyless and remote engine start, keyless entry, and a climate control system.

Also, as you move up the trim lineup, the Civic has other standard and available features that the Corolla doesn’t offer. This includes an interior cargo shade, rain-sensing windshield wipers, HD Radio, a dual-zone climate control system, a navigation system, and a power passenger’s seat.

In making a buying decision between the 2022 Honda Civic and the 2022 Toyota Corolla, the Civic has three key advantages. This includes better performance, more interior space, and more standard and available features.
