3 Reasons to Avoid the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is Japanese automaker Toyota’s newest compact SUV model. The new SUV is a spin on the popular Toyota Corolla model. Here are three reasons to avoid the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross.

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is too weak to be exciting

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower. It has the same horsepower as Corolla top trim levels. The Corolla Cross is underpowered compared to other subcompact SUV models. The 2022 Kia Soul even comes with a powertrain option that makes 201 horsepower.

The subcompact Mazda CX-30 is capable of 227 horsepower. The 2022 Hyundai Kona is capable of 195 horsepower. Unfortunately, the Corolla Cross can’t match up to its peers in terms of power or acceleration.

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross’ base model is too basic

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross starts at $22,195. It comes in three different trims: the L, LE, and XLE. The compact crossover’s cabin is basic and unrefined compared to competitors like the Mazda CX-30.

The Corolla Cross comes with very few standard features, and its best features are reserved for its XLE trim. The Corolla Cross XLE starts at $27,625. There are plenty of more affordable compact SUV models that offer more value and power for a more affordable price.

The Corolla Cross shares many of the issues that the Corolla has. It’s a perfectly adequate vehicle. It just isn’t exciting. Today, vehicles come with advanced tech and standard features that are too impressive for the base model Corolla Cross to compete with.

The Corolla Cross isn’t the best Toyota compact SUV

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is now one of four available compact SUV models produced by Toyota. It is getting a better reception by the public than the CH-R. But it is still far from the best Toyota compact SUV model. Avoid the Toyota Corolla Cross because there are better options from Toyota.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 starts at $26,525, that’s a $4,330 difference from the base model Toyota Corolla Cross. While this may be a significant price difference to some consumers, the value that the RAV4 can provide over years of ownership outweighs its price.

The RAV4 is the most popular American compact SUV model on the market. Settling for the Corolla Cross would mean settling for less power, fewer standard features, and an overall poorer ownership experience. If you’re looking for the best subcompact SUV model on the market, the 2022 Kia Soul or 2021 Mazda CX-30 are much better options than the Corolla Cross, according to U.S. News & World Report.
