The 2022 Toyota Tundra is a breath of fresh air compared to its last model year. The dynamic new pickup truck could even challenge the Ford F-150 Raptor in many different categories. Here are three reasons why the 2022 Toyota Tundra could be a Ford F-150 Raptor killer.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is a powerhouse

The Toyota Tundra has historically been a powerhouse. Toyota may have gotten rid of the Tundra’s V8, but the pickup is more powerful than ever before. According to Car and Driver, the base model 2022 Toyota Tundra will make 348 horsepower using its V6 engine.

The 2022 Tundra is the first model year to offer a hybrid powertrain. Its hybrid powertrain produces more horses than a V8 would and produces fewer carbon emissions. It makes a whopping 437 horses using a turbocharged engine and electric motors.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra’s hybrid version produces just 13 fewer horses than Ford’s mighty F-150 Raptor. Leave it to Toyota to amaze consumers with a hybrid powertrain. One reason that the new Tundra could be a Raptor killer is that it produces incredible power as a hybrid and will ultimately get better gas mileage than the Raptor’s measly 16 mpg combined.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is much more affordable than the Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $64,495. The 2022 Toyota Tundra starts at $35,950. The hybrid version’s price has yet to be announced, but even if it were an additional $10,000, the Tundra would still be much more affordable.

The Ford F-150 Raptor is an incredible truck, but the Toyota Tundra hybrid will match its power at a price that isn’t as tear-inducing as the F-150’s price. Since the Tundra will be the more attainable truck, more consumers will end up with Tundras than F-150 Raptors.

The Ford F-150 Raptor is considered a powerful off-road adventure truck. The Toyota Tundra TRD Pro seems to be the most well-suited to compete against the Raptor in terms of off-roading prowess. Its price has yet to be released, but if it is more affordable than the Raptor, the Blue Oval may have a big problem on its hands.

Ford F-Series models are shining examples of great American work trucks. The F-150 Raptor is an F-150 equipped to play instead of work, and consumers have enjoyed the Raptor over the years. Its only rival has been the Ram 1500 TRX.

The Toyota Tundra has a very different history. Toyota Tundras have failed to climb full-size truck rankings year after year. The Tundra has finally been redesigned after over a decade of less than stellar reviews. The 2022 Toyota Tundra is the nameplate’s chance at redemption. The final reason that the Tundra could be a Raptor killer is that it is the underdog that finally has a chance to shine.
