3 Reasons the 2021 Ford Raptor is Better Than the Ram TRX

The battle of the super trucks is intensifying. For a few months, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX didn’t have any competition. But its reign could be over now that the 2021 Ford Raptor has arrived. There are a few reasons to go with the New Ford Raptor instead of the Ram TRX. 

The 2021 Ford Raptor vs. the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX 

We know the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has a V8. That’s a solid argument against the 2021 Ford Raptor. The TRX has a 6.2-liter V8 engine that pumps out 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. That’s something Ram won’t let you forget.

The new Ford Raptor has a 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine that provides 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. That’s a huge difference in power, but the 2022 Ford Raptor R will have a V8. Ford won’t be behind in terms of muscle for long. 

Plus, even though the Raptor currently lacks a V8, it has a higher rating than the TRX, according to The Car Connection. So, a loud massive engine isn’t the only thing fans are considering with these beastly rides. 

1. The Ford Raptor is better equipped

While the Ram TRX has 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires, the Raptor has smaller 17-inch wheels. However, you can equip it with 35-inch or 37-ich tires. Also, both trucks have optional bead-lock-capable wheels. 

Both trucks have a long-travel suspension with a five-link setup and coil springs in the rear. The TRX has 13-inches of front-wheel travel and 14-inches of rear-wheel travel. However, the Raptor has 14-inches of front wheel travel and 15-inches of rear-wheel travel. 

The 2021 Ford Raptor also has a gear advantage. It has 10 gears, while the Ram TRX has eight forward speeds. But, the TRX has a 3.55 axle ratio while the Raptor has a 4.10. The Raptor has a 50:7:1 crawl ratio compared to the 44:1 in the TRX. 

2. The Ford Raptor is more sensible 

Both of these trucks have loud rumbling engines. Their roars are pretty exciting and are definitely part of the thrill. However, loud engines can be pretty disturbing to neighbors. There isn’t a way to quiet the Ram TRX, but the 2021 Ford Raptor has a quiet mode. You can quietly leave the house then return the truck to its normal loud mode as desired.

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is thirsty. It only gets an EPA estimated 10 mpg in the city and up to 14 mpg on the highway. But if you can afford a $69,995 truck, maybe fuel prices aren’t a concern. 

Official EPA figures haven’t been released for the Raptor yet. However, the 3.5-liter engine has been reengineered to be stronger and more fuel-efficient. It’s expected to have a better MPG, and the previous model gets 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. Pricing is expected to start at around $59,000. 

3. The Raptor has a nicer interior 

The 2021 Ford Raptor has bolstered leather seats to comfortably keep you in place with optional carbon fiber or aluminum accents. The Ram 1500 TRX is available with cloth, vinyl, or leather seats and has aluminum finishes.

The 2021 Ford Raptor Fails to Meet Ram’s Challenge

Both have pretty advanced tech, but the Ram TRX has an old-school analog cluster display, while the Raptor has a digital one. Both trucks have wireless phone charges and plenty of USB ports too. 

But the Raptor has a center console that doubles as a work surface. Plus, the Raptor can be equipped with the Ford Pro Power generator. This means that even in the middle of the desert, your truck can provide power.
