The Porsche Taycan adds Zuffenhausen flare to the sober styling problems of the luxury electric vehicle (EV) sedan landscape. However, despite its many redeeming qualities, the Taycan isn’t a perfect luxury electric option. So, might three of the most frequent owner complaints establish the Porsche electric car model as more of a headache than it’s worth?

What are the issues with a Porsche Taycan?

While there isn’t an abundance of long-term reliability data available for the Porsche Taycan, these are some of the more common and significant issues with the luxury EV model:

  • Recalls for display issues and total loss of power
  • Software issues
  • Battery issues

Is there a recall on the Porsche Taycan?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has two recalls on record for the 2022 Porsche Taycan. One recall, dated June 8, 2022, names a vehicle display malfunction that could result in the center stack blacking out. Additionally, another recall refers to a seat belt warning system defect.

Specifically, the seat belt recall cites a faulty occupant warning system that might fail to alert passengers to buckle up. Unfortunately, 2021 model owners have to contend with 12 recalls, the most irritating of which is a software issue that could lead to a loss of power. Of course, while some owners complain about the inconvenience of taking their luxury EVs to a Porsche service center, recalls are typically repaired free of charge.

Does the Porsche Taycan have software issues?

The 2022 Porsche Taycan has 40 complaints of problems with the NHTSA, some of which are software related. For instance, some owners complain that software problems lead to faulty climate control functionality, blank infotainment screens, and a series of unprompted warning lights, per Car HP

Moreover, Edmunds shows owner reports of extended stays at service centers due to software issues leading to faulty braking and overheating chargers.

What is the lifespan of a Taycan battery?

Battery packs like that in the 2023 Porsche Taycan could last 10 to 20 years or longer, per J.D. Power. However, a number of criteria impact battery lifespan, like driving habits, battery size, and climate conditions. Still, owners complained to the NHTSA about rapidly discharging and underperforming batteries.

Is the Porsche Taycan reliable?

Since the Porsche electric car is so new, it will take more time to determine long-term reliability. As a result of its new platform and technology, it will likely exhibit problems, bugs, and growing pains.
