Have you seen a dealership markup added to a car, truck, or SUV lately? This usually happens when there is more demand than supply, and some sport utility vehicles have skyrocketed in popularity this year. Here are three popular SUVs you’ll pay extra for heading into 2023.

When Edmunds researched vehicles with additional dealership markups added to the MARP, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class was at the top of the list. Demand for the G-Wagon far exceeds the supply Mercedes puts out, which means big markups for buyers.

In the area of super luxury SUVs, the G-Wagon usually comes in last. While the 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is about as stylish as it gets, it doesn’t live up to standards in any other category. Mercedes-Benz says it is off-road capable, but there are better SUVs out there for off-roading. At the same time, there are also more comfortable luxury SUVs on the road.

Either way, the Mercedes-Benz G-Glass is about as glamorous as it gets, and you can expect to pay extra for that glam. The average markup was $14,982 on top of the $192,812 MSRP. Some sources say that G-Wagon sales are falling as the new year rolls in, so keep an eye on this one.

A new Land Rover Range Rover hit the market this year, and buyers can’t get enough. While a previous generation Range Rover was still available at some dealerships, the newest 2023 Land Rover Range Rover won’t get confused with that version. All new looks, powertrains, and interior materials make this version stand apart.

The Range Rover is priced between $101,000 and $211,200, but the average MSRP was around $132,066. Edmunds said buyers could anticipate paying $8,454 over that, bringing the average transaction price up to $140,520.

For those needing a lot of space and luxury, the 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV checks those boxes. This 2023 Cadillac has a price range of $82,295 to $152,195, but buyers have been subject to markups due to its popularity. The ESV is just a longer-wheelbase Escalade with more room in the third row and cargo area.

Edmunds found buyers were paying a markup of $6,255 or so. Not as bad as some of the other options on the list, but it will still push the average transaction price up to $116,204. The good news is that the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration already gave the 2023 ESV a four-star safety rating, so you’ll have a safe and popular SUV you’ll pay extra for.

It seems that many of the popular SUVs you’ll pay extra for are full-size. The Lexus LX 600 and Toyota Sequoia also made the list but were subject to smaller markups. Would you pay extra for the vehicle of your dreams?
