It might not comes as a surprise that the Toyota Tundra will last a long time. iSeeCars looks through two million vehicles that have been on sale for 10 out of the last 20 years. The Toyota Tundra pickup truck came in fourth on the list, with a potential lifespan of 256,022 miles or more.

Automakers like Toyota build trucks to last a long time and be dependable all the way through. “What we see is a list of highly-durable vehicles, capable of more than a quarter-million miles of use if properly maintained,” iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said.

Honda’s Ridgeline is jamming past 250,000 miles

Just behind SUVs, trucks like the Honda Ridgeline were some of the most common vehicles to exceed 230,000 miles. iSeeCars determined that this Honda truck can last 248,669 miles or more. That isn’t to say that your Honda pickup truck will die at 248,000 miles. The vehicles studied on this list are still going strong; that number is just an average of some trucks still on the road.

Four out of five trucks in the top 20 were Japanese pickup trucks, specifically. While these types of vehicle are meant to last, it isn’t always the ideal family vehicle. SUVs have more room for people and things, but pickup trucks see harsh conditions like towing, hauling, and just generally a tougher lifestyle.

It is also worth noting that a pickup truck jamming past 250,000 miles with ease probably has a better resale value a few years later. Buyers know the vehicle isn’t on its way out, so there is more value to another buyer.

Don’t overlook the smaller Toyota Tacoma

While the Toyota Tacoma is one of the best-selling trucks on the market, it also came in third for pickup trucks with the potential to last more than 250,000 miles. One way to get your Tacoma to a high mileage is to keep up with routine maintenance. Owners should regularly monitor oil changes, fluid flushes, injectors, and brakes. iSeeCars says the Tacoma could last 235,070 miles or more. About 2.2% of Tacoma trucks on the road have more than 200,000 miles, higher than the average of 1.9% for the midsize truck category.

Check the vehicle history report to determine if the pickup truck has been in any accidents. It can also tell you if any open recalls need to be fixed. Getting a pre-purchase inspection is also a good idea, as it can help find any hidden issues or problems that might not be obvious.
