Midsize SUVs with the lowest depreciation start with the Toyota 4Runner

iSeeCars looked at three million three-year-old and five-year-old SUVs sold in 2022 to see which ones had the lowest depreciation over five years. It might not come as a surprise that the Toyota 4Runner was the midsize SUV with the lowest depreciation, coming in at 21.7%. The average for the midsize SUV segment came in at 39.9%, so the 4Runner offers a pretty good bargain. iSeeCars says that the average depreciation for all five-year-old cars is 33.3%, meaning these midsize sport utility vehicles tend to depreciate at a higher rate.

One reason for this low depreciation is buyers tend to hold onto the 4Runner for longer than the average SUV. Toyota built the 4Runner to be a durable sport utility vehicle that is also capable off-road. Due to this, it has accrued a large fan base over the years and is highly sought-after. Toyota doesn’t make that many 4Runner SUVs yearly, which keeps demand high in both the new and used markets.

Honda’s Pilot is a midsize SUV with a low five-year depreciation

You can’t have a list of midsize SUVs with the lowest depreciation and not mention the Honda Pilot. This means that its value tends to hold up well over time, making it a smart choice for those who plan to keep the Pilot vehicle for several years. The Honda SUV has a spacious interior with room for up to eight passengers and offers a smooth and comfortable ride. iSeeCars found that the Pilot depreciated 36.7% over five years, still coming in under the midsize SUV average.

Honda SUVs have a reputation for being reliable and easy to maintain. The Pilot comes equipped with various features, such as available all-wheel drive, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a rearview camera. It also has a strong engine, which provides plenty of power for towing and hauling. Overall, the Honda Pilot is a solid choice for a midsize SUV with low five-year depreciation.

The Dodge Durango holds its value well

Potential buyers of the Dodge Durango will be happy to know it has a five-year depreciation of around 36.1%, still coming in under the midsize SUV average. Dodge has a reputation for building powerful and spacious vehicles, and the Durango is one of those. It also doesn’t have the highest production numbers, leading to more demand than supply much of the time.

Like the 4Runner, buyers of the Durango tend to hold onto the vehicle for longer than the two or three-year average. Even though it depreciates in that time, the Durango holds its value well over the first five years. It has room for seven, more than 295 horsepower, and is even built right here in the U.S.

These midsize SUVs with the lowest depreciation are a good buy. While all cars depreciate at some point in time, these were some sport utility vehicles that declined at a slower rate.
