The Genesis G80 faces stiff competition from its established rivals in the luxury midsize sedan segment, including the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6, and Lexus ES. Yet, the comparative newcomer to the fray has proven to be a worthy adversary, and according to Good Housekeeping, the G80 is the best family luxury sedan of 2023. Here’s what makes the 2023 Genesis G80 a great family car.

Comfortable accommodations for the whole family stand out

The 2023 Genesis G80 delivers ample creature comforts as standard and does so at a price that significantly undercuts much of its competition, two factors that already make the G80 appealing for families.

As standard, the 2023 G80 has amenities like synthetic leather seats heated in the front, ambient interior lighting, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Mid-range models sport tri-zone climate control, a power rear sunshade, rear side-window sunshades, a panoramic roof, and genuine leather upholstery. That’s a lot of kit for a car that starts at around $50,000, which is thousands cheaper than its rivals from BMW, Mercedes, or Audi. And some similar features in those models require either purchasing upper trims or splurging on them as optional extras.

Adding to its rich features list is the G80’s whisper-quiet cabin (not that your younger kids will necessarily whisper in it) and a ride quality that soaks up the lumps and bumps of the road.

The G80 also delivers up to 38.2 inches of rear headroom and 39 inches of rear legroom, easily accommodating bulky rear-facing car seats and average-sized adults without issue.

The G80 has a bevy of standard technologies and driver’s aids

Safety is an obvious priority for a great family car, and again, the Genesis G80 delivers many driver aids and safety features. All models are equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assists, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, automatic windshield wipers, and automatic high beams. Also available is an alert to remind drivers to check the rear seats when exiting the G80, a head-up display, and Reverse Automatic Emergency Braking.

The G80 also sports some unique optional features like a Blind-Spot View Monitor, which displays a video feed of the sedan’s blind spot on the digital gauge cluster when a turn signal is engaged. This allows drivers to change lanes while keeping their head forward. Remote Smart Parking Assist can pull into or out of tight parking spaces without needing the driver to be at the wheel, ensuring the kids don’t bang the G80’s doors on neighboring cars.

The Genesis G80’s generous feature list also includes connectivity to entertain the family on long road trips. It has a standard 14.5-inch center display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, four USB ports, and SiriusXM. A wireless charging pad and 21-speaker Lexicon premium audio system are available.

The Genesis G80 family car excels overall

Good Housekeeping noted the 2023 Genesis G80 combines attractive styling, premium cabin materials, “refined and potent powertrains,” and a host of standard features while undercutting its competition on price. “Its focus on refinement, insulation and comfort will soothe your fried nerves even when you’re running errands with the kids in the back,” the publication noted.

Those seeking a family luxury sedan that provides an overall solid package should absolutely put the 2023 G80 on their shortlist. And for those who want to switch to a zero-emissions family hauler, the G80 now has a fully electric iteration – the new-for-2023 Genesis Electrified G80.
