Consumer Reports, Forbes, and U.S. News offer some of the most well-respected opinions in the automotive industry. However, they don’t always agree on everything. For the midsize truck category, the trio agrees on one thing: the best model. These three experts agree on the best midsize truck, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline.

Consumer Reports‘ best midsize truck overall is the 2022 Honda Ridgeline. In the crowded segment, CR only recommends a few models. However, the Ridgeline is considered the best of the best. Not only is it one of three models recommended by CR, but it also scored far higher in its review than every rival. With a score nearly 10 points higher than the second-place Maverick, what’s so good about the 2022 Honda Ridgeline?

In addition to a high predicted reliability score, Consumer Reports loves a lot about the Ridgeline. For example, a quiet, well-finished cabin provides a comfortable ride to the driver and passengers in any seat. Next, features like the dual-action tailgate and in-bed trunk are innovative enough to catch anyone’s attention. Lastly, Honda’s midsize truck has a good payload capacity and decent fuel economy for a truck of its size.

Forbes’ best midsize truck

Just like Consumer Reports, Forbes listed the 2022 Honda Ridgeline as the best overall midsize truck. Narrowly edging out models like the Jeep Gladiator and Chevrolet Colorado, there are a few reasons Forbes placed the Ridgeline at the top. The publication says it “delivers on all counts,” referring to a midsize truck’s goal to deliver truck utility in a manageable, fuel-efficient package.

In addition, Forbes likes that Honda restyled its lone truck offering for the previous model year. Along with a 5,000-pound towing capacity, the Ridgeline can also drive off-road. That’s why Forbes says it can do “85% of what most pickup owners will ever do with their trucks” but with better V6 fuel economy and luxurious standard features not found elsewhere.

U.S. News best midsize truck

As for U.S. News & World Report, it also placed the Ridgeline at the top of its midsize truck rankings. Scoring an 8.3/10 overall, it far exceeded other models. More specifically, the tied-for-second-place Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger, and GMC Canyon scored a 7.7/10. U.S. News’ review of the top-ranked Ridgeline mostly echoes what other experts have already said.

The publication loves Honda’s midsize truck for the upscale cabin, which has been touted as luxurious repeatedly. Similarly, the interior provides spacious seating for up to five people. Feeling comfortable and roomy inside a pickup of any size is rare. Next, U.S. News calls the powertrain “robust” and loves the ride and handling. Overall, it’s clearly a comfortable, smooth-riding truck with a seriously high-quality interior.

Experts agree on the 2022 Honda Ridgeline

In conclusion, Consumer Reports, Forbes, and U.S. News have the same best overall midsize truck. All three reviewers agree it’s the best option for buyers right now. With a car-like smooth ride, the high-quality interior of a much more expensive model, and a surprising amount of pickup truck utility, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline is an excellent choice.
