While in the past, most trucks featured two doors and a bench seat up front, a different cab configuration is a popular pick in today’s market. And that is the crew cab pickup truck. These trucks have four doors and two rows of seating, making them ideal for hauling passengers and cargo. These are three of the best trucks you can get with a crew cab in 2023.

When was the first crew cab truck invented?

The first crew cab pickup arrived in 1957, and it was from International Harvester. Known as the Travelette, this truck kicked off what would become one of the most popular truck configurations.

With the invention of the crew cab, trucks can go from simple work vehicles to legitimate family cars. You get space for passengers, but you still have the utility of a bed and the ruggedness your lifestyle might require.

3. 2023 Toyota Tundra

For the 2022 model year, the Toyota Tundra got quite a significant redesign. Gone are the days of the V8 Tundra. Now, each version of this full-size pickup comes with a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Although haven drove the third-gen Tundra, I think it could be mistaken for a V8 by an untrained ear.

In some cases, the new Tundra actually outranks more popular trucks, like the Ford F-150. And you can get capability various trims and options, including the TRD Pro. With up to 389 horsepower, the 2023 Toyota Tundra is ready for just about anything.

2. 2023 Ram 1500

Although you can buy a fourth-gen Ram 1500 in the form of the Ram 1500 Classic, the regular version is likely better for most needs. A plethora of engine options are available, including a V8 that makes an eye-watering 702 hp. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 295 hp should be enough for most needs.

According to Car and Driver, one of the biggest perks of the 2024 Ram 1500 is how comfortable it is. The higher trim levels of this full-size truck offer some legitimate luxury. And overall, the ride is comfortable, considering this is a body-on-frame vehicle.

1. 2023 Ford F-150

Seeing the Ford F-150 on this list is probably no surprise to most. For decades, it has been one of the most popular full-size trucks on the market. Even though it has not always been the most reliable pickup out there. In 2023, you can get the F-150 with a crew cab, meaning there should be enough room for adults in the rear seats.

There’s actually an electric version of the F-150 that is currently on the market. But, because of demand, it is pretty difficult to get one. It is cool to see the Blue Oval feel so confident about its EV technology that it offers a battery-powered F-150.

At the end of the day, the gasoline-powered F-150 remains the truck that most folks will find themselves getting over the 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting. But it will be interesting to see how the Ford Lightning settles into the market and what kind of share it gets.
