Toyota is an extremely popular automaker that built many great cars, and some of the best Toyotas are hybrids. This shouldn’t be a surprise since the automaker popularized hybrid cars in the American car market when introducing the Prius. Toyota has continued innovating and improving its hybrid cars, and here’s a look at three of the best Toyota Hybrids.

1. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is one of the best Toyota hybrids to buy

The highest-rated Toyota hybrid, according to MotorTrend, is the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It received an overall score of 9.1 out of 10, making it the best option in the compact hybrid SUV segment. The main reason the RAV4 Hybrid scored so well comes down to the regular RAV4 being a great SUV as is and the hybrid version only making it even better.

It starts at about $31,000 and provides good value at that price tag. However, this is the source of the site’s criticisms of the SUV. Starting at over $39,000, the higher trims don’t provide as much value as the cheaper trims. The only other critique that the site had was that the RAV4 Hybrid’s handling “could be better.”

Besides those two small problems, Toyota gave the RAV4 Hybrid plenty of standard features, including an 8.0-inch touchscreen and a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster display. It also gets Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which provides the car with a long list of smart safety features, all as standard. Its hybrid powertrain gets 219 hp, and all-wheel drive is standard. This allows the hybrid SUV to get about 40 mpg combined.

2. The Toyota Prius is a classic that still merits consideration

Even after all these years, the Toyota Prius continues to be one of the best hybrid options. MotorTrend reviewed the 2022 version of the car, and it gave the Prius a score of 8.8 out of 10. This made it the best compact hybrid hatchback. That said, the Japanese automaker gave the Prius a complete redesign for the 2023 model year, and it’s improved a lot overall compared to other hybrids.

The Prius starts at about $27,500 and has a brand-new hybrid powertrain. It gets 194 hp, which is a significant improvement over the 2022 version’s 121 hp powertrain. Despite the increased power, the new Prius is more efficient as it gets about 57 mpg combined, which is 1 mpg better than before. It starts with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and the automaker also gave it Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which is the most advanced version of the company’s safety suite.

As with any other car, though, the new Prius isn’t perfect. The car critic complained it doesn’t have much rear visibility and that the rear door handles are awkward to use.

3. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid is worth a look

MotorTrend gave the Toyota Corolla Hybrid an overall score of 8.8 out of 10, making it the second-best compact hybrid sedan. It also has a starting price tag of about $23,000, making it one of the more affordable hybrid options. Its hybrid powertrain gets 121 hp, and it allows the compact hybrid sedan to get about 47 mpg combined.

Like with the Prius, Toyota gave the Corolla Hybrid an 8.0-inch touchscreen as standard, and it also comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The automaker updated the car’s infotainment system for the 2023 model year, but the car critic complained that the Corolla Hybrid’s rivals have bigger screens. The car critic also didn’t think that the Corolla Hybrid was spacious enough on the inside.
