If you’re willing to spend more than $30K on a compact SUV, Mazda offers several CX-5 trim levels that really pile on the standard features. The CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus includes all the features that come standard on the CX-5 2.5 S Preferred Package. It also includes paddle shifters, a Bose 10-speaker audio system, and a 7.0-inch LCD meter display. This trim starts at $34,300.

The Premium Plus is one of the few trim levels to feature an adaptive front lighting system. It also adds sport and off-road driving modes to the compact SUV. The CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus is pretty sweet, but it isn’t necessarily the best CX-5 trim for the money. That position is reserved for the penultimate CX-5 trim.

The sportiest versions of the CX-5 are the CX-5 Turbo and CX-5 Turbo Signature final trim. These models are much pricier than the base model CX-5, but they’re the closest that the compact SUV gets to being a luxury compact SUV.

The CX-5 Turbo starts at $36,750. It’s the next trim after the Premium Plus, so it includes the best features of the previous trim level, plus some added goodies. The main reason the CX-5 Turbo is the best CX-5 for the money is because of its turbocharged engine.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 Turbo makes 256 horsepower with premium 93 octane fuel. That’s a whopping 69 more horses than the base model CX-5. This sporty compact SUV has the performance specs and handling to rival some luxury compact SUVs.
